Was Marlon Brando Almost The Penguin in "Batman Returns"?Submit Comment
According to IMDB, "Batman Returns" director Tim Burton was considering Marlon Brando, John Candy, Dustin Hoffman, Bob Hoskins and Christopher Lloyd for the role of The Penguin. It eventually went to Danny DeVito.

MTV News has now sat down with Burton, who is promoting the animated "9" film, and asked him Warner Bros ever truly considered Brando for The Penguin. "No," said Burton, laughing about the idea of a studio accepting one of his wacky casting choices.

"I also wanted Sammy Davis Jr. to play Beetlejuice," Burton continued. "So sometimes my ideas don't go down so well with the studios. But hey, you try."

brando as penguin wouldn't be as good as DeVito's

but Sammy Davis Jr as Bettle Juice? AMAZING.

Danny De Vito did a great job. They don't need Marlon Brando. Obviously Brando will too much asking, especially for money

I think of that list of possibles, Bob Hoskins would have been great as well. I mean DeVito was perfect, everything about him is perfect for the role of the penguin and his portrayal is timeless, no matter how Nolan could reinvent the character, I don't think anyone could top DeVito. But if the role had gone to Hoskins, I think that would have worked out fine as well. John Candy and Dustin Hoffman are a no, and Christopher Lloyd is great but too tall to play the Penguin.

Brando would have been great, there's no performance that man couldn't do. G.O.A.T

That role was certainly not beyond his talent, everyone has had their bad ones. Brando's good performances severely outweigh his bad ones.

Agreed, it wasn't beyond his talent, but for some reason it still slipped away from him...?

Haha this reminds me of NAMBLA.. NO not the North American Man Boy Love Association. Which if you're bored you can read about right here...

Well Brando was one of those guys who didn't really give a f*ck about the immense talent he had so he kind of let it just waste away and always said he was doing it for the money. When he had enough he just stopped caring. Dude had a lot of personal issues from childhood, you know how that goes.
SACdaddy writes:

Had a lot of family issues later in life too. Man had some f*cked kids.

No, no, no. This intel's all wrong. It was Marlon WAYANS who was up for the Penguin in Batman, not Brando. Honestly, what kinda crazy sh*t will they think of next?

im 100% sure Marlon Brando wouldnt have done as good of a job as DeVito, although i think he could have done a hell of a Catwoman.
