Bryan Singer to Remake "Excalibur"

Bryan Singer to Remake "Excalibur"Submit Comment
Warner Bros has closed a rights deal to remake the 1981 "Excalibur," with Bryan Singer (X-Men, Superman Returns) producing and developing the picture as a potential directing vehicle.

"Excalibur" is the quintessential myth-of-King-Arthur film, complete with the enchanted sword, the Knights of the Round Table, Merlyn the wizard and the quest for the Holy Grail to save Arthur's life. The original movie was directed by John Boorman and adapted from the Thomas Malory book by Rospo Pallenberg and Boorman.

Boorman's film broke talent such as Helen Mirren (who played the evil Morgana) and Liam Neeson (Sir Gawain) as well as Gabriel Byrne, Patrick Stewart and Ciaran Hinds.

First Battlestar Galactica, now Excalibur. What else is this guy trying to wreck with his remake fevered delerium?

No reason to remake that movie.

We need a good King Arthur movie. I don't know if this is the one though...

He probably wants the job so he can handle the massive swords around the set. Oh, and he probably wants to swing around various weapon replicas also.

The first movie has all A-1 Class Actors.

Who would they imagine today could duplicate that?

Stop hatin on Singer! The guy had one swing and a miss and yall already want to send him to the showers. Usual Suspects, X1, X2, and Valkyrie were all excellent movies. So what if he missed a little on Supes Return, I think he's earned anothher chance to get back on track. Excaliber is one of the best movies ever made, but its also just one of many King Arthur films. If Singer can return to form and have the balls to make it R rated (please spill Arthur's guts again) it may be pretty good. I never get tired of Malory's story being retold.

btw I had no idea that was Helen Mirren playing Morgana in the original. The Queen was looking pretty damn good back in the day. I wonder if her and Merlin made a little magic off camera if you know what I mean.
