Paul WS Anderson Talks "Castlevania" Movie

Paul WS Anderson Talks "Castlevania" MovieSubmit Comment
Paul WS Anderson (Alien vs Predator) has been looking to bring the "Castlevania" video game to the big screen for years, but the writers' strike and the sale of Rogue Pictures kept putting the project on hold.

Now, Anderson has signed "Saw" creator/director James Wan to re-write the script and helm the new movie. But don't expect a "Castlevania" film to appear in theaters any time soon.

"[The project is in pre-pre-production [and no one is] exactly sure when it's going to shoot," said Anderson, adding that he still doesn't know whether the film will rely on CG effects or how close it will stick to the game. "We're still working on it, so I don't want to preempt that. We're just not there yet."

He did, however, say that "there'll be the whip and there'll be creatures. James is doing a pass on the script to put himself into it with the tricks and the traps, which he is really good at."

Anderson continued: "One of the things with 'Castlevania' is it's not just about the creatures but the environment trying to get to you as well. I think [Wan] is a terrific choice because a key part of 'Castlevania' is the intensity of being trapped within the confines of the castle, and he's shown with 'Saw' that he excels with intensity in confined spaces."

I've always thought that there are two game frranchises that would translate great to the big screen albeit of course if done right. The Metal Gear franchise and the Castlevania franchise. The material that already exists is so deep and rich, it can basically write itself. As long as they stick to one premise and not try to cram the ENTIRE lore into one or more movies it will work. Just don't hack it out and try to make the fanboys happy.

Rarehunter. You are funny. I like your use of profanity, and more so, your ability to get away with it on here. You are my new hero!
