Hugh Grant to Quit Acting?

Hugh Grant to Quit Acting?Submit Comment
Hugh Grant is set to quit acting after being crippled by stage fright. The "Notting Hill" actor has started suffering from panic attacks whenever he goes in front of the camera and is considering changing his career.

"I like everything about filming except the acting. I'm wonderful in rehearsals, but I have never been very good when they actually switch the cameras on," he told Entertainment Weekly. "In recent years I've had really bad attacks where I totally froze up. I thought, 'Well, if I am going to get stage fright, then I am packing it in.'"

This isn't the first time the 48-year-old British star has threatened to quit Hollywood. After appearing in "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" in 2004, he claimed he was "semi-retired" - but went on to star in "American Dreamz' and 'Music and Lyrics."

Hugh accepts people will be skeptical about his vow to quit acting, adding: "I realize how ridiculous that makes me look."

Yeah, he better get out soon before he has to do some REAL acting.

Try another genre Hugh, the romantic comedy bit is getting old. I could see him playing MCcartney in a Beatles film.

Could his panic attacks have anything to do with his alcohol abuse? Hmmm?

Interesting fact from IMDB :

On the set of Mickey Blue Eyes (1999), James Caan gave Hugh the nickname of Whippy, because Caan said he worried about everything like "the little whippet dogs that get nervous and you got to put a sweater on them when they're cold".

I bet Caan wanted to punch this guy in the face on a daily basis.

"well,he is getting too old for romantic comedies anyhow..."

Not sure that ever stopped Robert Redford...

@SAC - Whippy... lol. It's not like Caan ever to keep his thoughts to himself. Good for him! Neurotic people can either use the neurosis to help (attention to detail) or hinder (worry if the sun will rise in the east). Gran appears to have done both. But he'd better get it in check, because however you are now (good, bad and/or neurotic) is only amplified with age.

As far as nailing Hurley... kudos to the man.
