"Poltergeist" Remake Gets a Release DateSubmit Comment
STYD has learned that MGM's upcoming remake of "Poltergeist" has now been scheduled to appear in theaters on November 24th, 2010, Thanksgiving weekend.

The new movie is directed by Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog, The Life Before Her Eyes) and written by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White. The cast has yet to be announced.

The original 1982 film was co-written by Steven Spielberg and revolves around a young family being visited by ghosts in their home. At first the ghosts appear friendly, moving objects around the house to the amusement of everyone, but then they turn nasty and start to terrorize the family before finally kidnapping the youngest daughter.

they either need to find a little girl who can above and beyond creepy, or just write that character completely out of it.

i never liked the original.it sucks.this is the kinda movie where a remake could make it as good as it should've been.

I can't believe Spielberg would let this happen, especially without him being involved. The first was simply too good for us. I still have nightmares about that dog-like ghost towards the end, and the tree swallowing the boy. It was epic, and COACH!!! This is going to be horrible, because it's a rehash of awesome.

A remake? That's novel in the movie industry.

A Poltergeist remake before a Jaws, Godfather, Casablanca, big Lebowski remake??? is there no justice! Hurry the f*ck up Hollywood...

I liked the first 2 Poltergeist movies. but the third as a bit of a stretch.

Wow is Hollywood getting so low on ideas that they have to remake every movie? Some movies shouldn't be remade this is one.
Ranger writes:

@Lulupendragon - I only liked the first one. The second (to me) only seemed like they were trying too hard, and it didn't have the magic the first one did.

@Track - WORD! Coleman could play a landscaping rock in the back yard that comes to life to haunt the family. He did it ever week in that show of his 100 years ago!

I just HOPE... this has ALL the class (not just some) that the first one did. And Jo-Beth... is you're reading this... XOXOXOXO!!!

i say f*ck it.let hollywood do remakes. some turn out good.let me remind you of batman begins, followed by the dark knight, which is the greatest movie there is.at least most aspects of remakes are different than the original.if they did remakes that was exactly like the original, then bitch all u want.

f*ck this sh*t.

I agree with Johnny_boy, let them do remakes, they'll start to lose money off of them, and then every remake will turn out to be a flop.

I wonder if the main characters smoke weed in the remake. :)

I'd still nail Jo-Beth Williams just for nostalgia.

screw this remake....there will never be another TRUE carolanne....for one....2nd, this is a disgrace to her memory....seeing herself replaced so some new child star can gain credit for what the original star lost in life???.....f*ck YOU HOLLYWOOD!!!!...i got somethin almost ready for your face!!...and it's not a bomb...i promise...just some messages from what fans think of you these days through a cd me and a few friends made

BEST SCENE about the first Poltergeist (my pick)?

That's easy!

The little boy and the clown.
synthetic1985 writes:

my favorite most scariest scene i've seen in the first?....the moment right after carolanne goes through her mom's body i guess, and after that there's this loud BOOM!...f*cking intense for 1982 audiences eh?...you can't top that ever again remaking frauds
Ranger writes:
on August 14th, 2009 at 12:23:43 PM

Then... the moving steak on the countertop... maggots on the chicken (fresh outta the guy's mouth). Bathroom scene... picking his flesh off. Great sh*t!!!
synthetic1985 writes:

even though you knew his face was fake when he was ripping it off...it was also more disturbing than seeing it done realistically....i mean imagine if the first terminator movie...where you see sarah and reese running from the machine through the hallway before reese dies...what would have audiences thought if the terminator's movement wasn't stop-motion effects?...what if it were smooth?...would it really be that much different....i don't think so....that's why even sometimes at night i still get freaked out by it...i give them so much credit for using what they had because they simply did not have the best of the best of technology back then....people were more creative back then...even when they were cheap or stealing somebody's idea...was still better than the bullsh*t that comes out this decade
synthetic1985 writes:
on August 14th, 2009 at 5:30:04 PM

let's put the 'c' back in creative...and get these sh*tty writers or sh*tty directors out of hollywood like they deserve
hinataoccu writes:

remake is a terrible idea.

the first movie is plain awesome
the second movie explains the whole story
the third movie is about the special effects

love them all
