Comic-Con "Kick-Ass" Clips Have Leaked!Posted: August 2nd, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
During Comic-Con, audiences were shown four clips from the upcoming R-rated film "Kick-Ass," based on Mark Millar's comic book. Those clips have now appeared online in bootleg format and you can check them out below.
The story centers on a high school dweeb named Dave Lizewski who decides to become a superhero even though he has no athletic ability or coordination. Things change when he eventually runs into real bad guys with real weapons.
Nicolas Cage will play a former cop who wants to bring down a druglord and has trained his daughter to be a lethal weapon.
Removed by the studio.

Looks like a "kick-ass" film!!! I trust Matthew Vaughn at the helm due to his work on the brilliant Layer Cake. If anyone can coax a good performance out of Cage, it would be Vaughn because he doesn't fuck around when a good film can be made (he is quite the serious chap). Looks great so far. :)

Excuse me, but Cage looks like the weakest part of the film. If Proyas, Stone and Turtletaub couldn't coax a decent performance from Cage, nobody can. Not even Christ, and that dude can raise the fucking dead.

I like the use of other superhero movie music in this one, most notable the superman theme in clip 1 and the joker theme from TDK in clip 3.
This looks good, and it may be a decent adaptation.

Of course, that's what I said about V for Vendetta, until Joel Silver looked at the first draft and literally said "It's too dense".

Mink, I know that might seem like the case, but the directors he has worked with lately (including the 3 you mentioned) are over-indulgent hacks (Turtletaub could make Brando fucking look bad). Matthew Vaughn chose to make this a passionate independent project so his vision could be realized, and would not bring someone on board if he did not think they could give a great performance. If you remember the last independent movie directed by a passionate filmmaker (Leaving Las Vegas / Mike Figgis), Cage gave a fucking flawless performance. Hell, I rip Cage alot lately, but he has been aces in quite a few recent movies (Adaptation, Lord of War, The Weatherman), so don't rip me because I have an inkling of hope, since he has the ability, and I believe Vaughn can exploit his talents as an actor. I don't mean to sound like a jackass, but too many people discount his accomplishments due to his hot-streak of shit movies.

Holy shit, this is a sleeper hit. I'm thankful as this will wash down those lumps of coal known as Wanted & Kill Bill.
As for Cage, yeah he's suspect but Spike Jonze brought out a good performance from him in Adaptation. So it's not impossible to get a decent performance.

"Spike Jonze? Adaptation?.."
I'm really going to have to see that movie. But I doubt anyone can make cage act. He's just not that great, even in his heydeay. Even in the Weather Man he sucked.
