"Funny People" Wins Slow WeekendPosted: August 2nd, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
"Funny People," directed by Judd Apatow and starring Adam Sandler, has topped a moderate weekend box office with around $23 million from 3,008 theaters. The new comedy beat the opening numbers of Apatow's "40 Year Old Virgin" ($21.4 million), but fell short of outperforming "Knocked Up" ($30.7 million). But unlike other film's, Apatow's projects tend to do better as time passes, mostly due to word of mouth.
As for the other openers, 20th Century Fox's "Aliens in the Attic" arrived in fifth place with $7.8 million, way under the pre-release forecasts for the family flick. The R-rated horror film "The Collector" missed the top 10, collecting just $3.6 million.
"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," which is now in its third week in theaters, took second place with $17.7 million for a total domestic gross of $255.5 million.

you forgot to mention the film's budget was 70 million dollars...that makes it a disappointment.

It's long, for some reason people dont wanna see long movies, its been proven this year....Watchmen is a prime example
Only if they are franchise related can people sit in a theater for more than 2 hours.

The only thing I didn't like about Funny People was Jonah Hill, I just can't stand that fat bastard. People rip on Rogen for playing the same character? At least he played a character with a conscience and didn't smoke weed in this movie. Hill played the same annoying fuck he always does. 6 of us went, all of us agreed it will be a DVD or Blue Ray purchase.

loved Funny people, it was a mature dramady bromance for sure.. An adult comedy. I really liked how they put in the home videos of sandler doing prank calls from the 80's it put i nice touch on it, and made it seem more real. Bottom line comedys are ruling the summer box office compared to comic book adaptations and other big action movies.. Plus this seemed it could of been based on true events. This seemed like it could of been based on true events and probably was.. Apatow has a long career he just keeps getting better and better. I just hope they dont do a randy movie. they guy was annoying to me, but thats just me though...
