Cameron Diaz Completely Spoils "The Box"Posted: July 25th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
During "The Box" panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, director Richard Kelly presented a new trailer for his mysterious film about a married couple who is given a small wooden box with a button inside. Pressing the button delivers the owner $1 million and will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world.
The trailer revealed a bit more about the movie, but it still kept most things a secret. Why do they have the box? Why do they get $1 million at the cost of another person dying?
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD:
Then Cameron Diaz took the microphone and spoiled the film. She said: "Richard had to throw in guys from Mars," adding that the aliens are testing mankind.

true or not...trailers spoil too much anyway...it depends on the movie...cuz sometimes they show you all the good parts of the movie in the trailer...and then find out there were only 1 or 2 good parts aside from the trailer...it's rare that a really good movie surpasses all of that these days

I can never tell if Cameron Diaz is pulling a dumb blonde routine or really is as stupid as she comes off. On the other hand, it must be pretty cool working across from her considering she's banged almost all of the leading men in her films.

It's from an old Richard Matheson story. Amazing how durable his stuff is.

Not really spoiling anything. This was a twilight zone episode.
And if Im not mistaken, I think the person who dies is the wife or husband because neither of them really "knew" each other. That's the twilight version at least.

Oh yeah, wasn't there another twilight zone episode where in this town all the power goes out, people become suspicious of each other and stuff happens. In the end its aliens who are causing the problem. Turning man against each other or something

The Twilight Zone with Rod Serling at the helm was one of the best shows in TV history. They should have saved his genetic material for cloning. Hollywood could ALWAYS use talent like his.

If it's true then I'm glad she spoiled it. I would have hated that twist. It would have reminded me a little of Knowing and I hated that ending too. At least I can prepare to be letdown by a bad ending a head of time.

And that's why Richard should have given Cameron a bigger trailer and a better make-up artist when she asked for them. Never piss off a Leading Lady.

Isn't this based on a short story by Richard Matheson? Why isn't that mentioned at all? I was going to say something along the lines of, "Well the DIRECTOR didn't 'throw in' guys from Mars, the author of the original short story did" but then I saw that they both had the same first name and then I was sad.

Even if that is the "ending twist" I'll still watch it - Richard makes damn good films... well, except that piece of shit Southland Tales.

I was at the panel. When she said it, it instantly seemed like something that would have been mentioned earlier -- by Kelly -- if it were supposed to be mentioned at all. So I looked over at Kelly and his face had turned GRAY and he was staring straight ahead. James Marsden on the other hand had this big fake smile plastered on his face. They both clearly knew what she'd just done, but she had no effing clue, just kept blabbering on and on. What a dingbat. I honestly feel for Richard Kelly. I guess he should have said what normally goes unsaid: that your talent should know what is secret and what is not, BEFORE you put them in front of a mic at Comic Con, for god's sake. The moderator did not seem to pick up on it, and when he got around to asking Kelly the next question, it took Kelly a moment or two before he could really function again. Poor guy. I was in Hall H all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and his giveaway (to a lucky fan who found a poster taped under her seat in the 6500-seat auditorium) of a real prop "button unit" from the film was by far the coolest of the Con. (Kelly opened the button and offered her to push it or not. She pushed it.)

In the 80's run of Twilight Zone they did the story. In that one, the couple pushes the button and it kills a stranger. Of course, they find out afterward that the button has moved on to another person who will have the choice to push it. When the wife asks the button keeper who gets the button next, she's told it's someone she doesn't know, implying that she'll be the next victim.
In the original Matheson story, the wife pushes the button and her husband dies in an accident. The money she gets is from his insurance policy.
