Ryan Reynolds on Playing "The Green Lantern" and "Deadpool"

Ryan Reynolds on Playing "The Green Lantern" and "Deadpool"Submit Comment
Ryan Reynolds spoke to Entertainment Weekly about starring in two competitive films in 2011, DC Comics' "The Green Lantern" and Marvel's "Deadpool" spin-off.

"There's no rule that says you can't play two different characters in two different comic-book universes," said Reynolds, adding that he is willing to consider playing other comic book heroes in the future (maybe "Flash"). "There are so many interesting comic book characters out there. I would love to do others."

Both "The Green Lantern" and "Deadpool" will likely end up to be Summer movies, which means that Reynolds will be promoting two comic book films at the same time. Should be very interesting.

I hope this pushes Marvel to scar up Deadpool and give him the comic suit, would make sense from a marketing stand point to differentiate his face from Green Lantern's. EW has been all over Reynold's nuts lately though, hahaha.

I hate when Hollywood tries to overexpose a decent actor like this. They've done it with Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale, and now they're spotlight is on Reynolds. It always starts out pretty positive (Swordfish, X-men, The Dark Knight) but inevitably the films get worse (Australia, Wolverine) and worse (Term Salvation) as they pile on. Now Hwood will force feed us as much Reynolds as possible until we eventually throw up and never want to see him act again. I sure hope he's got a good lawyer, because he's about to be raped by the best.

he should have been cast as the Flash and had Cooper be the Green Lantern.

"There's no rule that says you cant ruin two different characters in two different comic-book universes," -is what he meant.

Do we really need this many superhero movies all at once? This reminds me of the mid 90s when Hwood was determined to release as many video game movies as possible. Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Bros, JCVD's Street Fighter, and Double Dragon all came out around the same time and they all sucked balls! Pumpin out all these Marvel and DC releases within the next 2 years will have the same results. There's no way they can put the same levels of time and effort behind these lesserhero movies that they put into The Dark Knight or Iron Man.

Deadpool kills a lot of people right? Will that be an R rated movie? I know, stupid question. Just looking for some reason to be interested in it.

Bradley Cooper should have been Green Lantern...give him The Flash...but there seriously SHOULD be a rule about playing two different comic book heroes...Seeing how we only wanted Reynolds to play Deadpool because that was the role he was born to play- seeing how its THE ONLY role the man has played over ALL his films. He's likable- but I don't want to see two heroes with identical personalities. Since Hal and Deadpool are both smartasses ONE of them is going to suffer due to Reynolds limitations...Again, he's likable, but he doesn't have any serious chops. He's a buff Judge Reinhold- always was, always will be.

@Prevalent Mind LOL a buff Judge Reinhold

@SACdaddy, he is an assassin/merc and his comics have high body counts(Punisher cut off DP's arms in one of his current miniseries, Bullseye put an arrow through his head in his regular series). He is kind of being turned into more of an antihero lately(team up with Daredevil), Way has done a great job so far!

He didn't comment about his wife straddling him with her rack staring him in the face. That has to be a pretty sweet view.
lostwarrior writes:

they should of given him flash, not dead pool or green lantern. yeah he will do them both justice, but i dont want to see him as every comic book hero, He is not that versitile and they will both have the same characteristics. get new fresh blood in. Years ago when they were trying to do the flash, his name was all over it, and his is Barry Allen, look at the guy for christ sake man... I think the studios are getting more and more lazy...
SACdaddy writes:

@acslaterson: So if its true about the high body counts in the Deadpool comics, will fans of the character be satisfied with the watered down, bloodless, PG-13 rendering of him that Hwood will undoubtedly release? Wouldn't it be cooler if they made it one of Marvel darker releases, like Blade, so they could stay true to the nature of Deadpool? You can't think they will go too dark with Van Wilder in the role.

@sacdaddy

Hollywood does the same thing with actresses, but the only difference is that they use the sh*tty ones.

Megan Fox, Jessica Alba, so on and so forth.
