Tim Burton Talks "Dark Shadows"Submit Comment
MTV News spoke to director Tim Burton on whether his next project will be "Dark Shadows," which Johnny Depp previously revealed would go in front of the cameras next year.

"That's something that [Depp and I] both love and are excited about," said Burton. "When I'm done with [Alice in Wonderland] I'll definitely focus on that."

The new film is written by John August and is based on the cult '60s supernatural TV show created by Dan Curtis that aired weekdays on ABC, from 1966 to 1971. With over 1,225 episodes, "Dark Shadows" was a highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies.

"It's another challenge because it was such a weird soap opera," Burton explained. "Part of the energy of it was the tone and weirdness of it. That's our challenge, to try to capture that vibe."

The TV show was part campy melodrama, part dead serious. Which director does Burton plan to go in? "That remains to be seen. I haven't arrived at the answer," he replied. "That's definitely a main issue, the tone and the vibe of it because as we all know melodrama can cross over. It's one of the more interesting things about it."

These two need to move to Massachusetts and get married. Jesus. Do they double up on Helena Bonham Carter?

I agree with Johnny Neat.If his past work is any indication I think Burton can pull it off as long as the tone is similar to Sleepy Hollow and not like beetlejuice
