Violent "The Collector" TrailerSubmit Comment
A brand new restricted trailer for the upcoming horror film "The Collector," which was originally conceived as a prequel to "Saw," has appeared online. It is being called a Blood Band (Red Band) trailer, mostly for the many gruesome, violent and gory scenes. Check it out below, but keep in mind that it is not safe for work.

Plot: The story revolves around a handyman/ex-con Arkin (Josh Stewart), who aims to repay a debt to his ex-wife (Daniella Alonso) by robbing his new employer's country home. Unfortunately for Arkin, a far worse enemy has already laid claim to the property and the family. As the seconds tick down to midnight, Arkin becomes a reluctant hero trapped by a masked "Collector" in a maze of lethal invention the Spanish Inquisition as imagined by Rube Goldberg while trying to rescue the very family he came to rob.

The film is directed by Marcus Dunstan, the writer of the "Feast" films and the last three "Saw" installments. It is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31st.

The first few reviews of this have been pretty good, I'm leaning towards checking it out

Its pretty damn good. "The thief comes to find worse" angle really builds the tension in a great way at the beginning. Makes you feel like its being delivered in an original way- but still acts as a formula crowd pleaser. Like Splinter with the redneck becoming a good guy, they spin out a bunch of great character angles that most horror movies don't strive for.

@Prevalent, how do you see all of these movies early all of the time? I will check this out, I always enjoy stories about anti-heroes.

I was a local critic on the radio before heading out for film school and I still run in the same circles, so we view ALOT of new films with screeners sent out to critics and film festivals entries. I see indies like this...more mainstream flicks I catch the test screenings or early showings. One of the benefits of building strong ties to all media- Television, radio, newspaper- is that at least one of them gets a chance to see it early and brings you along. We just love film in general.
