Michael Jackson Movie Coming This Year

Michael Jackson Movie Coming This YearSubmit Comment
Sony Pictures is close to a deal to make a feature film from 80 hours of Michael Jackson rehearsal footage filmed for concerts Jackson was preparing to perform in London.

The studio is expected to pay over $50 million for worldwide rights to AEG Entertainment, which owns the footage and showed it to studios last week.

The film will feature at least three videos, including an alternative version of Jackson's "Thriller," which were shot to be interstitial programming during the London concerts. The footage was meant to play in 3-D, but it's unclear as yet whether the feature film will present it that way.

"High School Musical" director Kenny Ortega, who shot the rehearsal footage, is expected to direct the feature, and sources said he's already beginning to put together the footage so Sony can release the film before year's end.

sounds pretty stupid. the minute after he dies they're already rushing for a way to make money off his legacy.

A little harsh tcu21. They were filming everything to specifically release it after he finished his tour. And I think its wrong to see it as they doing this to make money, but more us getting something to remember him buy.

Exactly.

yeah cause news coverage for a week straight and then some hasn't given us enough. They may pitch this as a tribute, but its just their way to make a profit off his legacy.

Well of course it's for profit (what isn't for profit these days... especially when the King of Pop beats it?!). MJ was the Jackson's Golden Goose. He's hot right now... strike while the iron is hot! No one is buying The Jackson 5 albums (now or in the future), and frankly... the Jackson's need the cash as faster than they spend it. Sure they should capitalize on this right now. Why do you think Jermaine wants MJ buried at Neverland? Michael didn't want anything to do with the place since his court trials in '95 and the cops stomped all over it and contaminated the place... and he, himself told people he didn't want to be buried there. Jermaine want MJ planted there to make it a tourist attraction (like Graceland) and keep the $'s coming in. I figured all of this was pretty obvious. And for anyone to think that this whole MJ spectacle is for any other reason other than to make money is either looking through rose-colored glasses thinking it's all for the fans, or they're just being naive. I'd do the same thing, and were you to walk a mile in the Jackson's shoes, you'd probably be surprised yourself, because you would do exactly the same thing.

omg hopefully the director doesnt screw this up, this would be a good tribute though

You're right Rich. I hope they make this a respectful doc*mentary/movie of this man's talent and leave ANY speculation as to his private life out of it (grease-slingers have made hash out of what could have been GREAT doc*mentaries on the talent of Freddie Mercury, but f*cked that up because THEY think people are more curious about the man's private life than their voice). Stick to the plan people... the PLAN!

well you also have to keep in mind....jackson was in debt...and obviously this money should be contributed especially to his kids...and now that he's gone...people are paying their respects for ever thinking bad thoughts about him.....who f*cking cares?....his private life is his private life and that's how it should be left...i just think it's sad that finally he's getting the privacy he always wanted that he never got to have in life

"Though Shalt not worship false idols". Oops.

Just look out for the biopic within a year.

This will probably be pretty tame, just some sort of Joblos 3d concert with a short doc*mentary about his fame and fortune. The serious stuff will be left out till the end, with the epic staples center funeral footage climax; the little daughter saying how great he was while fade ins of old silent concerts break through the giant view of her face. A close up of her tears brings the audience. Titanic is unseated because of the price of 3-d theater tickets.
