"Harry Potter 6" Box Office ResultsPosted: July 20th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" grossed an estimated $79 million from 4,325 theaters over the weekend for a five-day domestic opening of $159 million, the best start ever for the franchise. "Order of the Phoenix" grossed $139 million during its five-day opening.
"Harry Potter" didn't come close to the opening numbers of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" ($201 million) or "The Dark Knight" ($204 million). But it broke $400 million in its worldwide debut, conjuring up the biggest overseas opening of all time ($237 million).
Elsewhere at the domestic box office, Sacha Baron Cohen's "Bruno" fell a steep 73% in its second weekend. The pic grossed an estimated $8.4 million from 2,759 theaters for a 10-day total of $49.6 million, making it unlikely that the mockumentary will come anywhere near what Cohen's "Borat" earned domestically ($128.5 million).
"Bruno" placed No. 4 for the weekend, after "Half-Blood Prince," "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" ($17.7 million) and "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" ($13.8 million).
On the specialty side, Fox Searchlight's offbeat comedy "500 Days of Summer" posted a per location average of $31,000 as it opened in 27 theaters, grossing an estimated $837,500.

Half-Blood Prince was really good. Transformers 2 doesn't deserve all the money it's made.

I have to admit I'm a huge fucking dork that loves Harry Potter. But honestly, I was just kinda bored throughout the whole movie. Maybe it was because I read the book and already knew that Dumbledore dies. I dont know what it is but these last two movies have just been kinda flat and boring.
