Russell Crowe is Considering "Master and Commander 2"Submit Comment
Russell Crowe is in the early stages of negotiations to reprise the role of Jack Aubrey as a British sea captain in a new movie version from the "Master and Commander" series of novels.

Crowe told The Associated Press on Friday that a script based mostly on the eleventh novel of Patrick O'Brian's 20-novel series, "The Reverse of the Medal," had been written, but that discussions were at a very early stage.

"There's still a long way to go," he told AP at a cricket match between England and Australia in London. He said talks had been taking place with the owner of the rights to the novels.

Crowe gave no indication of when filming could start but said it was one of a number of projects he is considering.

Well, there's only about twenty books in that series, so he has a lot of fodder for at least a few films.

thats great...the only problem is that the first one flopped and that was when crowe was at his prime...i can't see any studio willing to take this risk...

Awsome, the film rocked. And yeah Mink, was it a collection of short Stories, or actual 20 books? I can't remember!

They're full books IIRC:

Master and Commander (1969)
Post Captain (1972)
HMS Surprise (1973)
The Mauritius Command (1977)
Desolation Island (1978)
The Fortune of War (1979)
The Surgeon's Mate (1980)
The Ionian Mission (1981)
Treason's Harbour (1983)
The Far Side of the World (1984)
The Reverse of the Medal (1986)
The Letter of Marque (1988)
The Thirteen-Gun Salute (1989)
The Nutmeg of Consolation (1991)
Clarissa Oakes (1992)
(The Truelove in the USA)
The Wine-Dark Sea (1993)
The Commodore (1994)
The Yellow Admiral (1996)
The Hundred Days (1998)
Blue at the Mizzen (1999)
The Final Unfinished Voyage of Jack Aubrey (2004) (21 in the USA)

A box-office flop can still make money. DVD sales, international ticket sales, et cetera. MaC is still making money via BluRay sales.

And Harrison long ago peaked, and that hasn't stopped him from making ten movies in the interval of time.

I think I watched this on FX and fell asleep half way through. Should I Netflix this?

Love this movie, own it, pull it out about once a year. It's got a different pace, but it's so rousing and Crowe is magnetic in it. I think another would be my greatest dream.

MaC was an excellent film, not really for the summer movie crowd though.

Ok, MaC was a good movie, I admit that, BUT Russell Crowe is a total douche! Never have liked him cause he's a prick! That aside, a new movie out of this series would not be a bad thing. I can honestly say that it would be a rental from the RedBox for me though !

u know bale your right, about a week before Crowe beat the f*ck out of a hotel employee in newyork, i was real close to him throwing a phone at me as well. It was when his cinderella man movie was showing at heartland film fest. the guy was drunk as hell and pissed that I could not get the international numbers for him to call australia in the time frame he wanted. which is probably one of the reasons why i dont watch this guys movie. The only one I thought waas descent was american gangster, gladiator and LA Confidential

I cant see them taking the risk either...I liked 'The Far Side of the World as a film- but what in the hell was with them cutting out the last few chapters of the book and not even putting them in the film at all?!? But just to clarify ANY film that makes 212 million is not a bomb by any means whatsoever...it still did well- not a megahit, but investors are happy enough. No one dove out a twentieth floor window or anything over it.
