Kate Beckinsale Sues and Wins for "Barbarella" Rumors

Kate Beckinsale Sues and Wins for "Barbarella" RumorsSubmit Comment
Every time there is highly-anticipated movie in the works, media outlets begin spreading rumors (based on anonymous tips) that a certain actor or actress is in talks to star. That exact same thing happened back in April of 2007 when the Daily Express named Kate Beckinsale (Click, Vacancy) as a frontrunner for the lead in the "Barbarella" remake.

One week later, the actress denied the rumor, but still called the idea "thrilling." She later called her lawyer and filed a suit against the paper, claiming that the story caused her considerable embarrassment and harm. But it wasn't because the Daily Express said that she was in talks for the role. It was for stating that she had lost it Rose McGowan (Grindhouse).

Beckinsale's lawyer said the following: "The film industry, particularly at the highest level in Hollywood, values actresses on the basis of them being successful and in-demand - one may say, being 'hot property'. This article wrongly gave the impression that the claimant's career is in decline which would undoubtedly have a knock-on effect on those who would be casting film roles, as well as the industry as a whole."

The paper admitted to their mistake, paid for Beckinsale's legal fees and wrote her a check for $125,000.

Oh so very beautiful, and oh so very a egomaniacal c*nt, skating by on her beauty and not her inherent talent. May she disappear down the same dark hole as Kristy Swanson and Lori Petty. A-dios, you stupid biatch.

Well that's bullsh*t, the paper defamed her. I think she should have sued
minkowski writes:

Those who can't act, sue.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but if she wasn't in talks for getting the role, if she wasn't even being considered, how can she sue? Maybe I should sue I wasn't considered for the lead role in Valkyrie, a role that went to Cruise instead.

According to Slashfilms:

"Not that Kate had won the role, but had instead that she had lost it, having been passed over in favour of Rose Magowan. In reality, Kate had never in any way had any real association with the part, had not been approached nor been shown a script. In reality she was only passed over in favour of Magowan the way that every other woman in the world had been."

Stupid British tort law.

And I'm getting sick of Rodriguez shopping Rose McGowan around, trying to make a diamond out of turd. If she can't make it on talent, she can't make it! So stop injecting her into every damned project. She wasn't worth a damn in Charmed, replacing Doherty, so how can she ever evolve into a high-demand actress? lol. And that's why we won't see a Barbarella remake anytime soon, as long as old Robert insists on forcing McGowan down our throats. (I'd rather force something down McGowan's throat, but that's another story.)

Universal got the point, which is why they dropped the project. She can't carry the film. She isn't a Jane Fonda, much less even a (gasp!) Nicole Kidman or Jolie, but Rodriguez will do anything to keep his little hot piece of tail, won't he?

Wow, that's insane... but in the shallow marketing world of Hollywood and pop culture as a whole, so TRUE.
