"MacGruber" Cast and Plot Revealed

Posted: July 8th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"MacGruber" Cast and Plot RevealedSubmit Comment
We recently reported that Jorma Taccone has been hired to direct "MacGruber," a "SNL" skit that parodies "MacGyver." THR has now learned that Ryan Phillippe and Val Kilmer are in negotiations to star in the feature. Will Forte and Kristen Wiig are reprising their roles from the skits.

The "MacGruber" sketches star Forte as MacGyver with Wiig as an assistant who always find themselves, along with that week's guest star, in a control room with a ticking bomb about to go off. MacGruber gets sidelined by personal issues, and the bomb goes off.

Plot: The legendary, much decorated MacGruber is pulled out of retirement as a monk in Ecuador by a colonel, who needs him once more to fight on behalf of his country. This time the mission involves going up against the evil Cunth, who has a nuclear warhead; the mission is personal because Cunth killed MacGruber's bride.

The movie version would see Phillippe playing Piper, an Army officer forced to pair up with a reluctant MacGruber. Kilmer would be Cunth.

MacGruber with Shia LaBeouf:

I'm just not convinced Will Forte can carry a movie.

True, MacGruber gets pretty repetitive - if you've seen one skit, you've seen it all (and the guest stars don't help here a bit).

props for c*nth thou - sounds badass;)

It's not like it's going to be an hour and a half of what they do in the skit. They'd get blown up like 35 times. I'd be interested how they stretch it and see if they actually blow him up in the end.

Exactly, though. There's no concept at all.
freshfromthedeli writes:

Val Kilmer as the bad guy? I'd see it.
Johnny Neat writes:

Funny as a skit, as a movie not so much.
bluemeenie writes:

Hopefully the movie will only be 3 minutes long too
PaintByNumbers writes:

Will Forte is the anti-funny. His Bush impressions are just horrible. He also talks out of the side of his mouth ALL THE TIME.
Ranger writes:

He should be a politician then.
Ranger writes:

Well... this is a step up from being a voice for a car to this for Kilmer
BurmaShave writes:

How old is that picture of Kilmer, 15 years?
VDODSON writes:
on July 8th, 2009 at 12:01:48 PM

Kilmer looks almost human in that picture. He's starting to resemble George Lucas by the day.
AJWPProfile writes:

We already know with Val Kilmer it's going straight to DVD anyways.
KirkLazerus writes:

if Val Kilmer is in it i may watch it
BlutoDaBoss21 writes:

horrible idea, snl has lost its luster, they only have liike 4 talented cast memebers, and can val kilmer just fall off the planet please? have they not realized he sucks?
Ranger writes:
on July 8th, 2009 at 1:52:18 PM

I suspect Kilmer suspected his career was going to go in a completely different direction than it did after Top Gun.
minkowski writes:
on July 8th, 2009 at 2:06:44 PM

Hitting the bottle every ten minutes will ruin anyone's career. Then again, Nick Nolte built a career on drinking, it seems. And Kilmer is no Nolte.
minkowski writes:
on July 8th, 2009 at 2:12:57 PM

Maybe I missed something, but the MacGruber skits aren't actually spoofs of MacGyver. They just used MacGyver as a 'container' to fill with the true intended material: anal sex jokes, vomit gags, dildo laughs and using the name Macgruber every three to five seconds. How is that a parody of MacGyver? Was that the BEST they could do??? Didn't they watch the show and find moments and events to pardoy properly? I could've done better! Hell, you can find FAR better sh*t on Youtube. By total amateurs.

And they want to make a MOVIE out of this vile, unfunny maggoty trash? And wtf is SNL STILL on the air? Is it like NPR and PBS? Something awful and unwatchable subsidized by the government in the public's common good interest?

Shocks the mind to think this is what passes for SNL, and doubly shocking is that anyone, anywhere, would think any of it is either clever or funny.

1) Will Forte doesn't do Bush impressions, he does John Edwards and Timothy Geitner primarily.

2) Wayne's World was a small skit that was stretched into a very popular movie franchise. Night at the Roxbury was based off the sketch that barely had dialogue so I wouldn't lose faith in this movie just yet. Especially since I think Will Forte and Kristen Wiig are very funny and a few of the cast members that are keeping the show funny.
SACdaddy writes:

Good to see Val back on the big screen at least. I don't know where they can go with it but even bad SNL movies are OK (ie Night at the Roxbury).

This movie will bomb, but i hope val kilmer can pick up his career and be as successful like he was in the 90's
PaintByNumbers writes:

@tcu21

1.) I didn't mean to hurt your vag by talking sh*t about Will Forte.

2.) He does ATTEMPT Bush impressions - however he probably hasn't done it in a while since Bush is out of office.

3.) Kristen Wiig is the female version of Forte.
minkowski writes:
on July 8th, 2009 at 5:32:58 PM

Yeah, Bush imitation. How easy is it to bump your career making fun of a guy nobody likes? The guy should try one day's worth hard labor. Or do something really difficult, like tossing Obama jokes in a Harlem comedy club. Now that's work.
Tyrone Biggums writes:

Which reminds me. Anyone ever visit that site: CatScans (not sure if that's the spelling). People have jammed their own cats up onto the scanners glass and taken scans of them. Pretty funky... as the cats obviously move. You get quite the color schemes. And the look on the cats faces... priceless!
SACdaddy writes:

When's the Adam Sandburg "I'm on a Boat" movie coming out?
tcu21 writes:

@paintbynumbers

Didn't think I acted like you quote "hurt my vag" but whatever.

There have been some poorly constructed episodes of SNL in the past few years but like Forte and especially Wiig, I mean Forte is no Samberg, Hader, or Hammond, but I think he's funny. Not sure if this movie will be good, but I just think that it's too early to dismiss.
