Robert Rodriguez Reveals "Predators" DirectorPosted: July 2nd, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
AICN had the chance to speak to Robert Rodriguez and ask him a bunch of questions about the upcoming "Predators" reboot, which is aiming to erase any bad memories of the monster that fans might have gathered from watching the "AVP" franchise.
First up, Rodriguez revealed that he has chosen director Nimrod Antal (Vacancy, Armored) to take on the reboot. "On a personal level I found him to be an outstanding presence, a great communicator full of ideas, and upon meeting him you can immediately understand how he is able to wrangle cast and crew and get the best out of everyone," he said about Antal. "We really want to go with a character driven action movie, because that's what we all remember about the original 'Predator,' and we want to take it even further with this."
Regarding why Rodriguez chose not to helm the film himself, he said: "I was already booked up as a director when this came back to me, but I still wanted to have a hand in making it. So I lobbied to have the movie done through my studios so I could oversee it in a stronger position than a producer usually takes on."
Rodriguez wouldn't reveal much about the story, because it's still being written. "But it still involves a very intense group of people stranded on a Predator planet discovering unspeakable horrors (that are not always from outside their group). So like the original movie, the title does have a double meaning."
Finally, when asked if it is possible to make a good at 20th Century Fox, Rodriguez replied: "I won't really know until I make a movie there. This movie is being made at Troublemaker Studios."

So this is actually not a remake since it takes place on a Predator planet and not earth unlike the original. Sounds good though. Like to see them explore that Predator lore more.

Good choice of director and RR but Fox has a history of having good things go bad.

I like Rodriguez but its hard to get up for another Predator movie considering where the series has gone. Hopefully Rodriguez is hard at work making something worth a shit and not another kids movie.

Sounds promising. Im just tired of seeing the damn thing in action. Going to the home planet is a pretty good idea- we know how aliens hatch and how...so it would be interesting to see what a colony of these things do on their own territory. I mean how do they interact as a society? I doubt they hide in catacombs like the aliens- But there better not be a bar gunfight involving two predators at the "King Willie Skull Saloon"....actually...haha nevermind- do that.
