David Fincher in Talks for Facebook Movie

David Fincher in Talks for Facebook MovieSubmit Comment
Columbia Pictures is in advanced talks with David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) to direct "The Social Network," the Aaron Sorkin-scripted film for Columbia Pictures about the formation of Facebook.

The film will focus on the evolution of Facebook from its 2004 creation on the Harvard campus by sophomore Mark Zuckerberg, while he was still a student at Harvard University, to a juggernaut with more than 200 million members.

Zuckerberg is now 24 years old and is said to be worth around $3 billion; Forbes Magazine declared him "[the] youngest billionaire on earth and possibly the youngest self-made billionaire ever." His company has been evaluated at $16 billion.

The aim is to begin production later this year.

Dear columbia pictures, you do not need fincher to direct this movie. please allow him to make orginal movies like fight club [violent, rated R and with a dash of Mindf*ck] and just give me the job to direct this sad movie. ---signed Common Sense

Who the f*ck would want to watch this? Do people on Facebook actually think, hmmm, I wan't see a movie about how Facebook was created...and I'll pay $8.50 to see it?

Well if it's half as good as 'Buttons'...then it will suck horribly.

A sh*tty idea for a movie, but damn...3 BILLION dollars at 24? Must be nice, knowing him and the future generations of his family never have to work again

Starring Edward Norton as the creator and Brad Pitt as his imaginary friend who came up with the idea....In a cool looking jacket and shades.

This is what happens when you realize that Benjamin Button ultimately had no point and nothing to state or say. Yeah its good and compelling- but it's a pointless flick. And don't tell me its meant to be a subtle statement- if its subtle you don't put more than 100 million into special effects that are featured in almost every frame of a 3 hour film.

didn't myspace come out before facebook?...why not make a movie about the guy who invented the internet?...that's had a way bigger impact than facebook...maybe even a movie about bill gates and how he stole ms-dos...i'm not even a member of facebook...i don't need many myspace-type website profiles....one already takes up enough time
synthetic1985 writes:

and to be honest...i see this happening, the movie gets made....a bunch of people pay to see it not knowing just what a rip off they got...this is better a doc*mentary than a feature film
PrevalentMind writes:

Actually MySpace would be the better idea. They truly pioneered it...and the creation of Facebook took it down- at least there would be some conflict. Facebook is such an ultimate success- Twitter barely takes away from it.

I think Facebook may have been released before MySpace but it as originally only a college social site, not the beat it is today. Also, this movie could actually be fascinating in the same way the story of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs was movie material. However, that story was told in a made for tv movie as should the Facebook story.

This movie idea doesn't have any friends :(

It's going to be race now between the Facebook and Myspace movies....prob will get better reviews than TF2 though...
synthetic1985 writes:

next they'll jump in on movies based on other popular websites...signifying just how f*cking SCARY it is that they are either running out of ideas, or they're just full of sh*t....or both...i dunno...at least some people are creative still and more sane than people who worship flicks like this
PrevalentMind writes:

Agreed- there will definitely be a horror movie with a facebook and myspace theme before ANYTHING serious or biographical on the subject gets made...

america online: the movie...lol....and PrevalentMind...i really hate that too...when they use myspace or facebook when a character is searching something on the internet in a horror film?...i mean i knew they couldn't resist doing it someday, but never did i think they would keep doing it and kill it and still not give a f*ck...that's scary
