Johnny Depp Wants to be The Riddler in "Batman 3"

Johnny Depp Wants to be The Riddler in Batman 3Submit Comment
At this point, everyone is still unsure about whether a third "Batman" movie will ever happen. But just in case that it does, MTV News wanted to know if Johnny Depp would consider joining the cast as The Riddler.

"It seems that it would be alright. I always liked the Riddler," said Depp. "I always liked Frank Gorshin (actor who played The Riddler in the 60s "Batman" show). Frank Gorshin was brilliant, I always thought he was a great actor. If the opportunity came, I would definitely juggle it."

Depp is pretty busy right now with "The Lone Ranger," "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" and many other projects getting ready to go into production. But it seems that he is willing to squeeze in "Batman 3," even though he also revealed that he will not make room in his schedule for Terry Gilliam's "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote."

Of COURSE he'd want to do it.. hell who wouldn't want to be in a Chris Nolan flick? Make this happen Warner Brothers.. WHATEVER it costs.

wait so he's NOT doing the Don Quixote film or is that a typo?

Viggo Mortsen for Riddler, Michael Chiklis as the Penguin. Two guys who can plausibly fight with Batman.

How can he be excited to play the Riddler in Batman 3 if he has a hell of a project in his pocket? He already has two big films to shoot/act, and he also thinks about being the Riddler? Kidding, he's just asked about his opinion, and he answered it. But sad that he didn't mention Jim Carrey - he was great for Riddler too!

@BobMcBob: He said that he wants to do the movie, but has he's busy with many other projects and doesn't want Gilliam to wait 3 or more years for him. He feels its not fair to Gilliam.

call me crazy but wouldn't it seem possible that he could play joker if needed to recast.i mean just slit his cheeks throw on some of his usual white make up.hes a good actor. not to mention they both have that girly look.

Hes going to be brilliant as The Mad Hatter too, my favorite AIW character!!

Viggo as Riddler...that's a slice of fried gold!!

Heath Ledger was a newbie to the villian archetype- Nolan's looking for new talent that defines itself. Maybe we should start thinking of what actors COULD define themselve in a role like this, but haven't already... ... Viggo was a nice choice though...

I wonder if the Riddler is Nolanly...?

Depp would kill it (in a good way)

Depp would be fantastic. But with Nolan and Bale missing from the table...

Viggo Mortsen, like someone above said. Or how about Michael C. Hall?
Ranger writes:

John Goodman and Roseanne Barr as the Riddler and the Penguin (or is that just the coffee in my Bailey's talking?!).

Guy Pierce.

keep cillian murphy as scarecrow and have him partners with johnny depp as the mad hatter.

If ypu read the recent graphic novel "Joker" by Lee brajemo and Azzarello you will see a very "Captain Jack" take on the Riddler so Johnny Depp would not be too far removed from reality. I could definatly see Depp
MRW007 writes:

id definately see this if johnny depp was in it. johnny depp is awesome!
mattcl23 writes:

Yeah Guy Pearce would be good, but my favorite for the role would be Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
SACdaddy writes:

He'd be perfect as the Riddler or any other villain. Maybe that would give Tim Burton a reason to come back and reclaim HIS series. Burton can out direct Nolan in his sleep. The original Batman was better (Burton's unique vision not based on tv show or comics), darker(Batman has no problem killing people), and shorter(not even 2hrs) than these new films. And, most of all, Jack was a better Joker than Ledger!
BlutoDaBoss21 writes:

Burtons were darker, Batman kills someone in Batman Returns. kills the huge carny. with the bomb.

johnny_boy...i'm with you....i can totally see johnny depp as replacing the joker instead...and get somebody else for the riddler...or...how about he plays both?...holy fucking shit that would be insane
synthetic1985 writes:
on June 24th, 2009 at 12:11:18 AM

that's what should happen....spread rumors of him replacing the joker...not in a bad way, but in honor of carrying on where heath would've possibly went with a continuation of it...it's not hard to figure that out....and besides, depp is already filling in for heath on dr. parnassus...i say why not?...has that idea been tried?...maybe it should be mentioned to them somehow....but that's just my opinion
synthetic1985 writes:
on June 24th, 2009 at 12:16:20 AM

that goes for you too nolan....that's a potential idea you can work with...it's painful enough...but if heath were still alive, you know he would've been right there for another batman...so that's why i say that idea should be tried...depp as both riddler and joker...it can be pulled off
BrandoFresh writes:
on June 24th, 2009 at 1:06:02 AM

I don't want him to do it if Nolan and Bale don't come back. I hope Warner Bros. isn't trying to rush this. They should just give Nolan and Bale time to decide for sure.
Ranger writes:
on June 24th, 2009 at 1:11:25 AM

They're both on-board (I believe) IF they can get a great script. And Depp never disappoints.
