Jason Bourne Scribe to Rewrite "Red Dawn" RemakePosted: June 18th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
While the cast of the upcoming "Red Dawn" remake is still being put together, LatinoReview is reporting that Tony Gilroy has been hired to rewriter the script, originally put together by Carl Ellsworth (Red Eye, Disturbia) and Jeremy Passmore (Special).
Gilroy has previously co-written all three Jason Bourne movie and was recently nominated for two Oscars for writing and directing "Michael Clayton."
Gilroy seems like the obvious choice considering that Dan Bradley, the director of the "Red Dawn" remake, was the second unit director on the Jason Bourne films.
"Red Dawn" revolves around a group of teenagers who form an impromptu insurgency when their town is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers. Set to begin filming in September, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on September 24th, 2010.

Good choice!
So the storyline of the original will probably now become a subplot and some brand new bourne-esque main plot of an amnesiac assassin awaking in the midst of war will be added. Awesome!

And what the hell, WP? Tony Gilroy is goddamn Tony Gilroy. But on Worst Previews he's the Jason Bourne Scribe? That's like calling Shane Black the 'Lethal Weapon Scribe'. But you would, wouldn't you?

Solid choice there. I loved all the Bourne movies and hopefully this guy will return for the fourth. Grab some good actors and this should be a pretty good remake.

Very nice choice. This is a good remake idea. See films like this cant ruin the original because of the completely different political climates of the two decades- also technology advancement are going to change the concept of this completely because its very hard to cut off an entire town from the rest of America with the internet and cell phones...Gilroy is an absolutely fantastic writer and he'll bring all the modern day aspects into the mould realistically. Great fucking choice here guys...Gilroy will at least try to make a statement instead of simply interchanging the USSR with Iraqi insurgents.
