"The Hangover" Takes First Place Again

"The Hangover" Takes First Place AgainSubmit Comment
Warner Bros' R-rated comedy "The Hangover" stayed at first place in its second week at the domestic box office, dipping a mere 26% to an estimated $33.4 million from 3,355 theaters for a total of $105.3 million in its first 10 days. Pretty good, considering that the studio was predicting that the film would earn $20 million during its debut.

Disney/Pixar's 3-D toon "Up" likewise continued to perform in its third weekend, declining 31% to an estimated $30.5 million from 3,886 theaters. Pic's total is $187.2 million -- the third highest domestic gross of 2009, behid "Star Trek" ($232 million) and "Monsters vs Aliens" ($195 million).

Taking third place was Sony's new entry "The Taking of Pelham 123" with $25 million from 3,074 theaters. Heading into the weekend, Sony knew "Pelham" had tough competition in "Hangover" and "Up."

It was a rough weekend for Eddie Murphy, whose family pic "Imagine That" came in below expectations in grossing $5.7 million from 3,008 theaters. The Paramount pic placed No. 6 and had a budget of $55 million.

"Imagine" is Murphy's first movie since last summer's "Meet Dave," which also misfired in opening to $5.4 million and earning a total of $11.8 million.

Go back to stand up Eddie! Recharge your acting batteries! I am glad The Hangover is doing so well, I went and saw it a second time on Friday and it was being shown on the 3 biggest screens of the 24 screen theater I go to.

Why doesnt Eddie Murphy just go back to standup like he planned to do after The Klumps? Taking his sweet time isnt he? I saw him on Letterman and he was talking about the plot of this flick and as he was saying the words, "His daughter's magic 'GUGA(??!!)' gives me advice on the stock market"...I lost my sh*t trying to stop laughing at how oblivious he was to how ridiculous the plot sounded- EVEN AS HE SAID IT OUT LOUD...lol.

I don't get why the f*ck people defend Eddie. he's a dumbass when it comes to picking scripts.

Ever consider, they may be the only kind he's getting offered? If he wants to continue with a career, it would seem that most of us agree he'd have to go back, write his own R-Rated comedy stuff, or await the next Shrek sequel. But he should sure as hell get off this 'family film' train sh*t (excl. Shrek) he's been cranking out for the past 100 years! OR get another Dream Girls... which where obviously he showed his stuff. But I (seriously) don't think he's being offered anything these days, and when it is... it's CRAP.
