Third "Donnie Darko" Film in Development

Third "Donnie Darko" Film in DevelopmentSubmit Comment
20th Century Fox released a sequel to "Donnie Dark" on DVD and Blu-ray on May 12th. Entitled "S. Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale," the movie revolves around Samantha Darko (Donnie's little sister) being plagued by bizarre visions on a roadtrip to Los Angeles.

According to Bloody-Disgusting, the studio has already greenlit a third installment and is currently in development on it. The site added that director Richard Kelly might be involved with the film in some capacity.

The original film, directed by Kelly, was a breakthrough hit for actor Jake Gyllenhaal. During its theatrical run, it received a very limited release. And while the movie brought it only $1 million domestically, it attracted a huge cult following on DVD.

why associate this with Donnie Darko??? Just like American Psycho 2 with no Patrick Bateman or any of the other cast.

You don't make sequels to amazing movies unless everyone involved with the first one returns willingly.

or you replace Katie Holmes with Maggie Gyllenhaal...one or the other

The first one was amazing. I never saw the second though. I'm just figuring it was seeing as how it went straight to dvd, and everyone knows that that's basically the hell for movie series.

Most movies that are made go straight to DVD. Certainly much more than what makes it to the cinema. But yeah, as far as direct-to-dvd sequels go, it's more likely they're just not very good.

Just no, thats all i can say, why continue ruining what was a good story u know. its like the never ending story two, its just a awful idea.
shteak writes:

Jesus... Are you all 15 year old girls??? Donnie Darko wad awful! It was missing three things: Good Script, good acting and a half decent plot!! Where i come from, these things matter! Stoopid dead bunny guy!!! WTF?
synthetic1985 writes:
on June 15th, 2009 at 3:30:01 PM

shteak...that might be true....but give it credit...it's got 80s time period for one....wasn't a remake....and honestly...i'd rather watch stuff like this over twilight or epic movie....as for s. darko, i haven't seen it and don't care to...same goes for the third if it ever happens...1 was enough and should be left as is
synthetic1985 writes:

the way i see it, a movie's reputation is ruined with unnecessary sequels and prequels...specially for a movie like donnie darko....the studios aren't gonna stop anytime soon...they want to cover every aspect of every popular title and then remake it again...btw i have to ask....did s. darko even compare to donnie darko?
shteak writes:
on June 16th, 2009 at 4:52:36 AM

Yeah, but i'd rather have toothache than watch Epic Movie, so that don't say much! I got ten minutes in and turned it off... Never saw Twilight. Saw DD though... It was sh*t... Who cares about feel when everything else bombed so bad.
Tyrkae writes:

its ok shteak i bet your like 50 yrs old and cant rember to wipe and you cant rember your teen years.Plus the part with smurfet in the 1st one is great that alone makes it a good movie
Tyrkae writes:

and very well said LT mike harrigan fox should just make sequel to HORRIBLE movies at least then they cant ruin even more.
They should start with dragon ball i dont know if it can get worse then that.

WHY!?!?!!? WHY WHY WHY WHY!!?!?! I liked S. Darko but it was seriously so amazingly contrite and inexplicable until the very end of the movie (and after. What the f*ck was the deal with the nerd guys skin condition or whatever? And how the f*ck did her friend get involved with the undisturbed dead or whatever?) You cannot make a third movie. The gylenhalls and mary mcdonnell and val kilmer and drew barrymore and seth rogen were honestly the only saving graces of Donnie Darko for an audience that can't conceive the plot without reading the internet.
Grenadeh writes:
on July 22nd, 2009 at 5:45:39 AM

Lol murphy. I was upset when they recast Rachel as Gylenhall but honestly shes so much cuter than Katie Holmes, and such a better actress. Katie Holmes can't act and she really is not attractive.
Grenadeh writes:

Shteak the fact that you're too stupid to comprehend the plot of Donnie Darko doesn't mean it wasn't as amazing as everyone that has a brain says it is. It had an excellent cast, an excellent plot, and excellent acting for a movie that in all honesty flew entirely under the radar. Drew Barrymore, Jake/Maggie, Seth Rogen, Patrick Swayze, Noah Wyle, need I continue. If you didn't like the movie you're dumb and you have no taste, there's nothing else I can tell you. You obviously should be Eberts next co-worker, neither of you know sh*t about film or presentation.

the plot for the third movie should be where someone travels back in time and keeps the 2nd movie from being made. (How is it possible that Sam Darko has Donnie's time travel book when Donnie never technically recieved the book. Think about it)
