Joss Whedon Turns Down "Buffy" Reboot

Joss Whedon Turns Down "Buffy" RebootSubmit Comment
We recently reported that Vertigo Entertainment is working on a "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" reboot, which will be produced by Fran Rubel Kuzui, who helmed the first movie and owns the rights to the franchise. But what about Joss Whedon, who created the franchise.

Vertigo is currently meeting with writers and hearing takes. And while producers don't rule out Whedon's involvement, it is not a priority to get him on board.

That kind of attitude does not make Whedon feel welcomed, which is why he told Entertainment Weekly that he will NOT be involved in the "Buffy" reboot.

"I believe [the producers] did ultimately reach out to my agent after the news broke," said Whedon. "I think that's something better left untouched by me. So, I wish them luck."

If Whedon is the creator how did he loose the right to buffy?

he created the tv show, the actually rights have always belong to those two f*cks (the Kuzui's) and the 1st movie was not nearly as good as the tv show was.

Yeah since the movie was made first- they got the rights. Imagine having to shell out to the rights holders on a property you created and wrote and directed once the TV show took off so successfully. Daaaamn. But I think we're putting a lot of crap on the original film- it's quite good in a campy way and though Whedon says they widdled down his script (he wrote at 17 and sold at 19) its so CLEAR where the witty dialogue comes from. Truthfully I think the film would have REALLY sucked if they originally crammed all those TV characters into the 90 minute flick. The series was a different beast from the film altogether.
