Writer on "Phantom" Reboot Status

Writer on "Phantom" Reboot StatusSubmit Comment
Back in December, it was announced that Tim Boyle would be writing the upcoming "Phantom" reboot, entitled "Phantom Legacy." Boyle revealed that his movie will have nothing to do with the 1996 flick.

Now, Moviehole caught up with Boyle to get an update. "The Phantom is still at scripting stage," said the writer. "Although the comic studio and executive producers have given it two thumbs up, we're constantly pushing the screenplay forward. I believe the film will go into pre-production by the end of the year."

It was previously rumored that Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation) will be playing the title character. "Sam is a friend of mine. He is very aware of the project but has never been approached to be in the film," said Boyle. "The producers may be considering him, but this has never come from my camp. I'm sure whoever they cast for the role will be perfect."

Regarding the differences between the 1996 film and Boyle's version... "The 1996 film was a product of the time. It was campy, not believable and didn't make much sense," he said. "Audiences want to connect with the film. Hopefully we can do that on this project."

I'm just glad they didn't say the magic words: "We're going to make this DARKER." Ugh...no more Batman please...unless, of course, it's Batman.

Man is this how much they love comic movies now?! They want to reboot a bomb?... (sigh), you know what they should reboot next, all of Uwe Boll's movies.

how are audiences going to connect to a character that they know nothing about? does the phantom strip still run in any newspaper?

Sam Worthington will not be doing Phantom as his agent is trying to do a deal that would see him in Green Lantern.

MrSammich- hey, if they switch directors, I have no problem with them rebooting Uwe Boll's movies.

I liked the 1996 film, love to see another. But i doubt Worthington will take on the role!

This is going to be a hard sale. I thought the 96 version was spot on to the vibe of the comic, after all as japaninmotion already stated, "What's not Camp... campy about that?"

"Bacci40-does the phantom strip still run in any newspaper?" Yes, its one of the most popular strips here in Jamaica. If they redoo the movie they should make the suit black as Lee Falk had intended. The character ended up purple because the ran out of the right colour mix.

Dre-EL...jamaica? lol...and most uniforms in comics were meant to be black, but because of the four color process, they never could get it right...thats why the spirit ended up wearing a blue suit and fedora
