"Night at the Museum 2" Beats "Terminator Salvation" at Box Office

"Night at the Museum 2" Beats "Terminator Salvation" at Box OfficeSubmit Comment
"Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" beat "Terminator Salvation" at the domestic box office this weekend.

"Museum 2" grossed an estimated $53.5 million from 4,096 theaters Friday through Sunday, while "Salvation" grossed an estimated $43 million from 3,530 location. Opening Thursday to $13.4 million, the films total is $56.4 million.

Benefiting from being the first family summer tentpole, "Museum 2" became the best live action opening for a Ben Stiller pic. It also easily beat the $43 million opening of "Night at the Museum" over the Christmas holiday in 2006.

Overseas, "Museum 2" also made a strong debut, grossing $50.1 million from 8,100 locations in 93 markets. That puts the film's worldwide opening at roughly $103 million through Sunday. "Museum 2" came in No. 2 overseas, beat by Sony holdover "Angels and Demons" ($60.4 million).

After the five-day numbers (Memorial Day weekend) come in, "Salvation" is expected to be in the vicinity of the five-day opening of "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines," which brought in $68 million.

I understand how it was second as museum is the first kid friendly movie to be out after the box office has been dominated by wolvie, Star Trek, Davinci code ectt for weeks, but..... Is terminator really that f*cking bad of a movie???

Terminator is somewhere between three and one. It was actually pretty good, to be honest, considering it took things in a slightly different direction than I was expecting. I'd put them, in order of best in the series to worst: T2, T1, T4....um, I think they made another one but I'm not sure. Hehe.

i did a little calculation.....i think night of the museum 2 would have won even if terminator was playing at the same amount of screens...but you also have to count in people that changed their minds over bale's rant...i'm sure that played a part in that...not to mention McG saying the weird stuff he did before its release...is it safe to say transformers 2 is gonna beat the sh*t out of 2009?

estimated???i was sure the movie would make at least 80 mil...I'm sorry but this is a flop.

Transformers 2 will shatter everything this year.

How can you class this as a flop both wolverine star trek and angels and demons all opened to NO competition at all terminator had to go up against a kids film (which always do well). It also had fewer screens which did not help. If you take night at the museum out of the picture it would have done a hell of a lot better so if you want to blame anyone blame the studio for putting it up against a kids film.

T4 is ok. It's a an action movie with little 'heart'. Connor plays a secondary role. It's mostly about Wright, and suffers from a mediocre and predictable story filled with lots of action and explosions. Some good acting, mostly Yelchin and Worthington. Bale does decent but is slighted by the script. T4 does all it can to maintain continuity with all the other films, so I give it some praise there. Could've been much, much better. If you saw T3, you'll like this better.

Haha I love all the T-Fanboys that are so defensive about this, kinda funny. This movie wasnt bad but I dont think it was as good as 1 or 2. Better than 3 most definitely though!
