Quentin Tarantino to Make "Inglourious Basterds" Longer?Posted: May 24th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Quentin Tarantino's WWII film "Inglourious Basterds" made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, and while most critics enjoyed the movie, the main complain was that there was too much talking and not enough action.
Variety is now reporting that Universal Pictures has asked Tarantino to go back to the editing room before releasing the film in theaters on August 21st.
But don't expect the director to trim any of the dialogue, since he hinted that the film, at 2 hours 27 minutes, is well under his contractual final cut length of 2 hours 48 minutes.
It sounds like there is a chance Tarantino will put back about 21 more minutes of chatter. Some of it may come from Hong Kong actress Maggie Cheung (Hero), who Tarantino called before the film's premiere to let her know that he was forced to cut her out of the film.

Man, QT is the man! After all of these recent films getting trimmed down I am glad that some directors are smart enough to get run time put into their contracts!

His dialogue is very good in some movies, but if it's anything like DEATH PROOF where he had these chicks talking about movies, bands, songs and other shit no one cares about but he is a fan of, then he might as well just leave it out. I get it, QT, you like obscure shit, now stop it.

I liked Death Proof in Grindhouse, and I loved his longer cut. I've got a chubby for Basterds.

I agree with Sinestro, the dialogue is say Pulp Fiction was brilliant, simple conversation but intresting. But Death Proof was shit, I hope Basterds has the usual Tarantino flow of speech1

Sinestro- agreed that scene revolving around the table for 20 minutes was absolute rubbish...BUT I can respect that scene because in exploitation films they only had one way in most cases to get to a theatrical running time and useless throw away scenes like that were meant for filler between the two set pieces that made the film's trailer...so I see what he was doing, but was is enjoyable or entertaining? Helllllllsssss naw.

death proof seemed more written for the grindhouse type of movie. Which was good for it but still kinda boring. This will be awesome.
