Russell Brand in "Drop Dead Fred" Remake

Russell Brand in "Drop Dead Fred" RemakeSubmit Comment
Universal Pictures is planning to remake "Drop Dead Fred," as a starring vehicle for Russell Brand (Forgetting Sarah Marshall). Dennis McNicholas, one of the writers of "Land of the Lost," will pen the new film.

The 1991 original starred Phoebe Cates as a wallflower who loses her job and husband during the course of a lunch hour. Forced to live back home, she's reunited with her childhood imaginary friend (Rik Mayall), who promises to help but causes more havoc.

The first "Fred" was critically drubbed and commercially unsuccessful. But it did achieve a certain cult status and is considered a film that fell short of its full potential. The take for the new "Fred" is to make a film in the tone of "Beetlejuice," building a universe around the concept of imaginary friends. Brand would play the trouble-making pal.

rik mayall was awesome...love that movie...and phoebe cates still had the same hots as she did in fast times at ridgemont high....even carrie fisher was there too...princess leia i mean...maybe it's just me but it had that 80s fantasy feel to it and i'm glad that sorta thing carried on throughout the 90s

I'm getting sick of the remakes but this one has potential not to suck.

So...just rename it. The concept is good, you'll have to change it tremendously to make anything resembling entertainment soooo...change the title. Why attach the name of a critical and commerical failure to a film you want to remake and earn bank on? Retarded.
