"Ninja Turtles" is a "Batman Begins"-Style Reboot?

"Ninja Turtles" is a "Batman Begins"-Style Reboot?Submit Comment
We already heard that a live-action "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot is currently in the works and now MTV News caught up with "Ninja Turtles" co-creator Peter Laird to find out some details about the direction of the new movie.

"I can say that at this point there are a lot of positive feelings about a 'Batman Begins'-style reboot, which would, of necessity, include a retelling of the Turtles' origin story," he said of early plot discussions. "Having said that, I would also be into an all-new story, if it was decided that that was a more desirable direction."

He continued: "Simply telling the story of what happened in the first issue of the 'TMNT' comic book would be a pretty short movie, so I suspect other things from the Turtles' history in the comics might be brought into it. I would not be unhappy to somehow see the tale of Baxter Stockman and the robotic 'mousers' folded into this movie, as well as some elements possibly setting up the TCRI connection for a possible sixth (or seventh) movie."

As for other characters we're likely to see in the film, Laird said the villainous Shredder would be a necessity for any TMNT origin story, and also mentioned that both intrepid reporter April O'Neil and vigilante Casey Jones came up during recent creative discussions.

So in other words, just do an unnecessary remake of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, and make all dark and serious to copy Batman.

TMNT was dark a la Batman to begin with, now they just see that they can make a real movie version of the Turtles and make money THANKS to Batman.

@Metafact the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were already dark and serious, did you read the comics? In the movie Leonardo never even cut anyone except for the Shredder at the end and only in that movie!. you should read the first issue and compare it to the movie, they kept it basically the same but there was a lot still missing violence wise.

So, will they all have just red masks, like in the original comic???

can you imagine raphael saying, "yo dudes, time to order a pizza" in a batman-like voice.

You know what...f*ck the Dark Knight if this is the influence it'll have on ALL fantasy properties from now on...TMNT is not Where the Wild Thing Are...the turtles backstory is compelling for a montage...not a two hour movie that follows a talking rat raising 4 upright turtles on pizza diet...yeeeeeeeeeah...let's get all dartk knight for that subject matter we all can relate to. Who hasnt been hit with radioactive ooze and had it have a giant impact on their life and environment? Lets see how the Turtles deal with the economy! yeah....get gritty

Really, though. If I hear "reboot" or "remake" one more time.....

Why all the Dark Knight bashing? Doesn't it say "Batman Begins" at the top? It's talking about the style of the origin, not the style of the film.

The original book wasn't as kid friendly as the cartoon. So why the f*ck not?

a good background story does need to be told, showing how they become the turtles and introduce Shredder and Master Splinter but definetly needs to be some heads severed and limbs a flyin!

Bring the Turtles from their comic origins and they should be alright.
