Live Action "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" Movie in the Works

Live Action "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" Movie in the WorksSubmit Comment
The Mirage Group, which owns the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" property, is moving forward with a live-action film focusing on the origins of the iconic crime fighters. Project, targeted for release in 2011, would mark the fifth big screen outing for the sewer-dwelling heroes Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael as well as their master Splinter.

News coincides with the Turtles' 25th anniversary celebration, which kicks off Thursday in New York as the first "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" film unspools at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Legendary Pictures former chief marketing officer Scott Mednick is producing the new pic alongside Galen Walker, who produced the 2007 computer-animated "TMNT" pic, the most recent installment in the franchise. Mednick added that the pic may employ face replacement technology, which would allow the turtles to be much more expressive.

The characters first appeared in a May 1984 comic book before spawning a lucrative line of toys, cartoons and three films released in the early 1990s. In 2003, the Turtles were reintroduced to a new generation via a TV series, the "TMNT" film and a revamped merchandising program.

so basically it's a remake of the original movie....whatever...the original was sweet and pure to the cartoon as well as creative

I'm getting sick of the origin story. The fact that they dropped it is what made TMNT so great. I thought this was suppose to be a live action-esque sequel to TMNT with Shredder. Sorta like a CGI Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Steven Seagal as Shredder?

@ synthetic1985 & WV-Films:

What else could they do? Shredder is one of the only three interesting villains the turtles have. All they can ever do is tell an origin story, unless you want Krang and Dimension X to be included. Good luck getting your audience to go for a live-action version of that. But, then again, it worked for Big Trouble in Little China. Beebop and Rocksteady come with that territory, by the way.

Then there's Baxter Stockman. I always loved that character. (The original one from the original cartoon).

Leatherhead, Metalhead, the Rat King, and Slash were all fun, but ultimately just gimmick villains.

Id love to see more eastman and laird style, but i doubt that will happen, But throw usagi yojimbo in there and maybe Cerebrus and we could have a movie!

I'm down if it's like the original movie with the vibe of the serious comic series that spawned all this Turtle madness.

For reals on the comics. The first cartoon was okay for when we were kids but looking back on all of it now the comics and 2003 series are superior in story and coolness. I'm up for some Yojimbo too, underused character.

f*ck this! I loved the cartoon and the movies when I was little but then I got a TMNT GN for Christmas and that sh*t was violent as hell! If they went off of the comics I would see it, but they won't so screw this.

Interesting, but the original was awesome, so you got a pretty steep hill to climb....odds are I'll get ripped and go to it....what say?

Now they said there going to stick to there comic roots but i don't think that will happen if they think parents will get scared off, not wanting to bring there kids to a awesome, bloody TMNT movie.
