"The Green Hornet" to Keep "Lone Ranger" Link Alive

"The Green Hornet" to Keep "Lone Ranger" Link AliveSubmit Comment
MTV caught up with director Michel Gondry to discuss the upcoming "Green Hornet" film, starring Seth Rogen as Britt Reid/Hornet. Gondry revealed that he's been doing lots of research about the character and the folklore, and has decided to keep the link between Green Hornet and Lone Ranger in his movie.

Back in 1936, when "The Green Hornet" premiered on Detroit radio station WXYZ, it was envisioned as a spin-off to the immensely popular show "The Lone Ranger." Masked crimefighter Britt Reid was explained to be the son of Lone Ranger's comic-relief nephew Dan. The link between the two shows eventually faded, but re-appeared again in the late 80's when a "Hornet" comic book series had a portrait of The Lone Ranger hanging on Reid's wall.

"The Lone Ranger" movie is also currently in the works, with Johnny Depp. And even though the two films are being developed by different studios, Gondry still plans to keep their link alive.

"I'm all for making such references," said Gondry, adding that he doesn't have the rights to depict The Lone Ranger. "I've suggested that in a cemetery [scene] we would see the horse of the Lone Ranger."

AF - re: The Shadow. Y'know... it was just bad enough, but not too much on the campy side (like the 60's Batman - always classic) so as to be overly bad - so The Shadow I enjoyed (then again, I'm a lot forgiving having been a comic collector about 100 years ago... always glad to see a comic come to life). But yes... it would be AMAZING if they took it seriously and did it up proper.
