Theater Encourages Commenting During Movie

Theater Encourages Commenting During MovieSubmit Comment
Some of the biggest complaints at a movie theater is having the film ruined by endless stupid comments by the people sitting behind you or a glow from a cell phone that your neighbor is using to text his/her friends. Well now, some theaters will actually encourage this.

Chicago Tribune is reporting that audiences will now be able to heckle a movie by texting a comment on their cell phone and then watch it appear on the screen for everyone to "enjoy." Unfortunately, it takes a few minutes for the comment to appear, so it might not match with the scene being shown.

MuVChat, as it is called, is in the early stages, with the first screenings set up at the Classic Cinemas' Charlestowne 18 theater. If you're interested in trying this out... "Dodgeball" will be shown on Saturday at 10:30pm.

"Normally, you don't want people texting on their phones, [the glowing screens] are kind of like fireflies inside the auditorium," said Charlestowne manager Randy Pollock. "But if everybody is doing it, it's fun."

At this point, new movies will not use the MuVChat system, but if it becomes successful, it will only be a matter of time.

I remember the good ol' days when people went to cinemas to watch movies.

I had the Clampett's sitting right behind me once eating burgers out of the wrappers during a movie... un-f*cking-believeable!!!!! It sounded like feeding time at the reptile house!!!!!

Another story: a friend of mine was in a theater... and some jack-off was pointing his pocket laser at the screen. This 300lb. black guy started to circle the room... until he zeroed this moron. As the big guy bolted down the row, people were going every which way, and he punched the living sh*t out of the guy with the pointer. Pretty damn funny!

This is kind of cool for special screenings of older films, like Dodgeball. As long as the audience is there to have a good time and knows what they're in for, it's whatever.

Stringer Bell, you're the type of moron that will participate in this until big studios do this for every movie, forcing the rest of us to never see a movie in theaters again.

first, studios have released pieces of sh*t that they call movies. now they want to ruin the movie experiance by having people talk out of there ass during a movie?? what ever happened to sitting down an enjoying a real, classic, masterpiece movie like they made back in the 60s, 70s,80s, an early 90s?? what happened!!??

Thank facebook myspace and any other social network that lets you broadcast your feelings 24 hours a day.People are now so starved for attention that the only logical thing is to broadcast it on the screen the whole theater is looking at.I hope 2012 is real and nature hits the reset button.

^lol Johnofthed3ad you hit that f*cking nail right on the head. I would completely stop going to theaters if this sh*t started. Who the f*ck cares what your thinking about a movie? Discuss after. Damn!

Awesome idea, i would love to pay $12 dollars to re-watch a sh*tty movie and have "texts" from other *ssholes scrolling across the screen about even stupider sh*t that probably doesn't even have to do with the movie. FML

I needed another reason not to go to theaters. I've been to very few theaters over the past year or so. I'm so sick of people opening their phones to get/send texts and even answer calls! Shut your phone off, shut the f*ck up, and watch the damn movie!
WAFFLE MAN writes:

People wont even comment on the movie they will be to busy putting other stupid stuff.

Stringer Bell - you're a dimwit for supporting this in any way. What a terrible idea.
Stringer Bell writes:
on April 17th, 2009 at 4:21:29 PM

If you're actually gullible enough to think that actual cinemas would incorporate this into normal showings of new films, I'm sorry for you. That goes for whoever wrote this article, too. That will never happen. There's nothing wrong with theaters doing this in a movie if the audience knows what it's in for and it's something they've seen a billion times. There's a reason the theater is showing Dodgeball and not Apocalypse Now. This website is filled with some of the stupidest people on the internet.
chiefone writes:

#1: What paper reported this and what is the biggest racial demographic in the area? #2: This is probably a $1 theater that obviously is showing older movies like Dodgeball. #3: If you want this experience now it is available. Me? You will never f*cking see me in one of these text theaters. To each his own though...
