American Apparel's Sleazy Attack on Woody Allen

A clothing company known for its racy ads is fighting a $10 million lawsuit brought by Woody Allen, arguing that it can't have damaged the director's reputation by using his image because the he has already ruined it himself.

Allen started the fight against American Apparel Inc when he sued the company last year for using his image on the company's billboards in Hollywood and New York and on a Web site. Allen, who does not endorse products in the United States, said he had not authorized the displays, which the Los Angeles-based company said were up for only a week.

Now the company plans to make Allen's relationships to actress Mia Farrow and her adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn the focus of a trial scheduled to begin in federal court in Manhattan on May 18th, according to the company's lawyer, Stuart Slotnick.

"Woody Allen expects $10 million for use of his image on billboards that were up and down in less than one week. I think Woody Allen overestimates the value of his image," Slotnick said. "Certainly, our belief is that after the various sex scandals that Woody Allen has been associated with, corporate America's desire to have Woody Allen endorse their product is not what he may believe it is."

One billboard featured a frame from "Annie Hall," a film that won Allen a best-director Oscar. The image showed Allen dressed as a Hasidic Jew with a long beard and black hat and Yiddish text. The words "American Apparel" also were on the billboard.

Dumb move by AA but Woody has tarnished his image more than any lame ad.

Yeah... this is a guaranteed win for Allen. Someone commented above...you're right, he should be suing for more $'s.

They better stop running their mouth or he'll bang their daughters in a revenge rampage.

Um...so if they don't think his image is worth anything then why would they use it in an advertisement? Idiots.

Woody "Child Rapist" Allen is a complete douche bag. This monster f*ckED a little girl and then brainwashed her into marrying him. He's a disgrace to all Jews, Americans, and human beings. I hope the judge finds out a way to give him the death penalty.

@ GrandpasWeiner - are you on something? like seriously calm the f*ck down... first off he didnt "rape" anyone. That girl was 1- his stepdaughter which is kinda wrong but was of the age of consent when sex happend and when marriage happened. Woody is one of the most genius filmmakers of all time, he needs to f*ck these crooked *ssholes over for this. He will get justice.

EVERYONE needs to get something straight: Soon-Yi Previn was never Woody Allen's stepdaughter--she was adopted by Mia Farrow and Andre Previn. Woody Allen was a longtime companion of Farrow but he never married her. Please, go on IMDb before you make insinuations about Allen as an incestuous rapist or whatnot. Frankly, Allen's a damn interesting director and I hope AA coughs up a load of money to Allen for being such a sleazy company.
