Jean-Claude Van Damme Turned Down "The Expendables" for This?Posted: April 15th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Ever since Sylvester Stallone announced his new movie "The Expendables," fans have been closely following his casting choices for this "tough guy homecoming." Stallone has already signed Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, Jet Li and Arnold Schwarzenegger, but his attempt at getting Jean-Claude Van Damme went nowhere.
Van Damme created a comeback for himself with "JCVD" and felt that taking a role in "The Expendables" was a wrong move for his career. Now, a new production company (Flagship Films) has announced that their first movie will be "Weapon," which will unite Van Damme with Steven Seagal for their own "tough guy homecoming."
In "Weapon," Jack Conway (Seagal) and Derek Chase (Van Damme) are the two best assassins in the world — but unknown to each other. While Conway is a master sharpshooter, Chase is equally skilled with a knife. These two rival assassins form an uneasy alliance to take down the head of a drug cartel, which is backed by the DEA.
Principal photography is set to begin in July around New Mexico and Vancouver. A director will be announced in the next several weeks.
With any luck, "Weapon" will be released at the same time as "The Expendables," which is in April of next year. "Weapon," however, will likely go straight to DVD.

What the hell is wrong with Van Damme? First he said that he would do a cameo in another straight-to-DVD Universal Soldier film, and now this crap.

Who cares about Van Damme? The Expendables will be awesome even if he isn't in it, and Weapon will be terrible because Seagal is in it. End of story. Fade to black.

I'm a lot hard-pressed to think Van Damme was ever offered anything in the Expendables.

I think Van Damme was offered Lundgren's part at first. But I love me some Lundgren, so I 'll take him in 'The Expendables' any day.

It all doesn't matter anymore, The Expendables is going to be PG-13, according to Sly (so all the kids can see their role models together).

Interesting. There's a script called Van Damme VS. Seagal. They should make that instead.

Why would Van Damme create a comeback for himself to only follow up with a straight to DVD project? Doesn't make sense. Hopefully this is wrong.

No...it's correct. Even some A-List Actors make movies that go direct to DVD in-between filming their really big hits we all hear about. But this won't be a come-back for either Seagal (whom I actually like... he can actually fight), and certainly not for Van (wait for my predictable 'splits' signature move) Damme... he's too far down the washed-up road. At least Seagal was his own Producer in his day... I'm sure his bank account is fine. Check out Van Damme's paydays on IMDB... I'm sure he's doing this to get his pool pump fixed.

Uhm... Seagal -used- to be able to fight.. from what I've seen of his latest ventures into dvdland it's been standins with even worse hairpieces than him doing the real fighting....

To: PencilNinja. You're right. It is almost 20 years (already) since Seagal was at his peak/best (if he ever had one... oh hell... you know what I mean!).
