First "Star Trek" Reviews Appear Online!Submit Comment
On Monday night, "Star Trek" fans got together at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas to watch a screening of "Wrath of Kahn." Instead, the audience was treated to the world premiere of the new JJ Abrams-directed "Star Trek" film. Some of the reviews, which are almost all positive, began to appear online and you can check our a few quotes below.

* AICN: Without exception, I think the first 45 minutes of the movie is rock solid. The second act has a few problems. I think Abrams pulled it off. STAR TREK isnít just a successful reboot, but a genuinely fun and exciting science fiction action adventure. (read full review)

* Twitch: Abrams' film is a very entertaining and reverential take on the Star Trek mythos. The acting and casting are spot on. The story mixes old and new elements of the Star Trek universe. The effects are breathtaking. J.J. Abrams' new work is as good as (and arguably better than) most of the Star Trek movies that preceded it. (read full review)

* CinemaBlend: The new Star Trek movie is amazing- easily the best Trek movie since The Wrath of Khan, and a veritable feast of sight and sound: A captivating adventure that grabs you from the first and doesn't let go. (read full review)

* Film School Rejects: It's a huge, sprawling film with gigantic explosions that manages to have heart and bravery built into each small moment. (read full review)

* Film School Rejects: J.J. Abrams has created a very accessible, fun Star Trek film that is perfect for a new generation of sci-fi fans. Sure, it plays to the fan base a little bit, but its real strength is in the fact that it is delivered with a ton of energy, it presents a story that is easily grasped by fans and newbies alike and is a big, kick-ass ride. (read full review)

* CHUD: The movie should easily become the biggest Trek film out there, and Paramount might have successfully turned this back into a cash cow. Let's just hope the next time out we can get some real exploration based adventure, instead of spending half a running time figuring out what the point of the film is going to be. (read full review)

* AICN Reader: J.J. Abrams really did it. He has revitalized the franchise. He made a movie that is smart and funny and charming and thrilling and reverent and is totally accessible to people who previously thought Star Trek was not for them. (read full review)

* AICN Reader: There are two or three "big knocks" I could shell at the film, mainly from a critic's standpoint. But really, why bother? It was fun, and enjoyable. I laughed at the funny parts, I got tense during some of the big action scenes, and I had good time. (read full review)

* AICN Reader: JJ Abrams has created a stunningly beautiful sci-fi vision that pretty much raises the bar for any space film to follow. (read full review)

* AICN Reader: People are going to really dig this movie. If you're a hardcore Trekkie you should dig the freshening up (but not disregard, understand) of the classic continuity. If you're a casual fan like myself then you'll be drawn in deeper and excited to see what's next. (read full review)

Well I might actually get excited for this now that it is getting such good reviews! I am a J.J. fan, but have never really gotten into Star Trek(only casually watched Next Generation).

I am not a Star Trek fan. In fact i have ever only seen Star Trek: Nemesis. But this movie actually looks pretty good and me and a few of my friends are going to see it.

Although I want to see this after the trailer was exposed, despite my love/hate relationship with this franchise, I fear this could be one of those everyone loves it till they hate it kind of movie. How many movies get hyped before and during the first weekend only to then be slyly rejected and hated once the masses have a taste by these same hypers and ass kissers? Yeah I'm mostly talking to you AICN!!!
