Wall Street and Toy Makers Not Happy with Pixar's "Up"

Wall Street and Toy Makers Not Happy with PixarSubmit Comment
NY Times is reporting that even though Pixar's tenth film "Up" will likely be well received by both critics and movie-goers, Wall Street and retailers do not have much confidence in it.

Some industry watchers are fretting about the film's potential, stating that "Up" will not grab the attention of younger boys, will not be another Pixar mega-hit and is not as commercial as the studio's previous projects. As a result, the Disney stock has been downgraded by several analysts.

Retailers believe "Up" will likely generate less revenue than "Ratatouille," until now the weakest Pixar entry in this area. Target and Wal-Mart say they will stock little "Up" merchandise, mainly because there was not much interest from manufacturers.

Thinkway Toys, which has churned out thousands of Pixar-related products since 1995's "Toy Story," will not produce a single item. Disney Stores will offer "Up"-related products, but even that will be on a limited basis, according to analysts.

Disney sees the worry as unfair and tiresome given Pixar's track record.

UP looks boring and uninteresting. I can't blame them.

I can't say that I really want to see this movie, but the fact that they're projecting a lower stock because the movie doesn't have cute animals or toys that talk...

Ha ho. Gordon Gecko is worried that little boys won't be fascinated by a magical balloon adventure. I'll see this movie purely because as a kid a similarly themed movie, The Chipmunk Adventure, was one of my favorites. "Watch out, watch it now!" Plus it's f*cking Pixar. Like...

wall street is full of sh*t...why else is the stock market where it is now?....and besides...i've seen little boys interested movie...and myself, a big boy lol, am interested in it too...i mean is this a sequel or a remake?....absolutely not...and pixar usually knows how to make a good family film so yea wall street is full of sh*t...besides...it's not like kids buy every toy that's based on every pixar movie lol...f*ck wall street...the people who are there and rich and suckin up all the glory can continue to do so for all i care...cuz we're not the rich yuppie selfish idiots are we?

Gladly, the first question of Pixar before making a new movie is surely not 'Well, how can we tell a story that upgrades Disney's stock by 10 percent...?' And like Donald Kaufman mentioned before, why shouldn't be boys fascinated by a balloon adventure? About possible toys: okay, the old man and the little kid might not be ideal for selling them as toy figures, but the dog in this story will surely find its buyers as a plush toy.

The boy is a boy scout, I think he could be marketable, they could do a cross promotion with boy scouts around the world, they could make games were players earn their boy scout stripes.

I'm sorry...what could Toy companies be upset about? Will they not get any business from Wolverine, Star Trek, Terminator, Transformers, AND Harry Potter? Wall Street can suck a big one. This film will make over $200 million just like every other Pixar film.
