GM Backs Out of "Transformers 2" Partnership

GM Backs Out of "Transformers 2" PartnershipSubmit Comment
Due to the state of the economy, General Motors is no longer Paramount Pictures' key promotional partner on the upcoming "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." This means that the studio will not get help from GM, whose new Chevy Camaro appears in the movie, to promote and spread mass awareness.

The reduced spending by the automaker comes at a tricky time for Paramount, which needs all the promotional backing it can get for "Transformers 2" in what looks to be one of Hollywood's most competitive summers ever.

Paramount, which spent some $180 million to produce the new movie, will lay out more than $150 million to market and distribute the film. And losing GM is not the end of the world for the studio, which has other major tie-in deals for the sequel, including Burger King, LG Mobile and Kmart. Paramount executives believe that the marketing blitz could end up being bigger than for the original "Transformers."

Officials from GM said the company's financial crisis prompted a change in plans. "We've pulled back on all of our marketing and advertising for obvious reasons, and spending is down dramatically," Chevrolet communications director Terry Rhadigan told LA Times.

Yeah, like they need to worry about a return of investment.

That's a pretty sh*tty move on GM's part, and while I understand the reasoning, probably not the best thing when all they need is awareness of what their new and concept vehicles look like. Despite other investors I doubt the tranformers would look right changing into giant franch fries and cell phones, so GM is basically getting free adverts for their vehicles, considering the entire movie and toy lines depend on the vehicle modes. And removing the symbols and nameplates from the vehicles won't matter(if they are in the movie) most people can tell what they are looking at and if they don't, it can be easily looked up on the internet.

"Hollywood's Most Competitive Summer Ever" That's a tag line for a sh*tty movie. I'm sorry but what makes this summer the "most" competitive? Is it just the Transformers vs. Terminator thing?

nah dude it's the car companies competing in transformers 2...and also i heard GM was going out of business so maybe that's why they're backing out

what's funny is that these car companies think us poor people can afford an expensive, up the ass priced car

$330 million altogether? That's more than what the first movie made domestically!
