James Cameron's "Avatar" is a Trilogy?

Actor Laz Alonso has had a pretty good last couple of years by starring in "Miracle at St Anna," the box office hit "Fast & Furious" and the James Cameron-directed "Avatar."

While speaking with Collider, he let slip a bit of news about "Avatar" that I haven't heard before. "To have the opportunity to be a part of this TRILOGY is the biggest gift I could have," he said. While there is a chance that Alonso might have misspoke, "Avatar" is epic enough to be told throughout three films.

The new movie tells the story of an ex-Marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival.

I got a feeling the movie will not do very well in the box office.why?simply because it's a sci-fi movie and these gerne wes a box-office poison in the last 10 years.I love James Cameron and I'm sure the movie will kick ass but I doubt it will be a box office hit as titanic.

cameron is not an idiot! hey look at the marketing and the publicity which is going on right now! and there are still 9 months left until the movie gets out and yet everyone talks about it!

A trilogy?! Goodbye TDK in second place, Cameron's coming(that's what she said)!

I'm beginning to think that this movie is being hyped too much and with stars that do not ring a bell to most movie watchers or are considered top tier enough to hype it like this. Seems Cameron's people are pushing the hype train possibly too far without any to show to prove it. Plus it's funny how this movie sounds like something already made... just can't remember what off hand.

Holy Crap. Slow down the hype train? You whiners went on and on about how Cameron hasn't worked in ages and now that we know he's back behind the lens you're bitching? He is Sci-Fi, he is the blockbuster, he'll give you what you want and he does it every time. Figure out what you want, kids.

Am I the only one who thinks this sounds a little like "Dances With Wolves" set in space?

^^and Last Samurai. It's one of 15 recycled plot structures that Hollywood rotates. But like you said, it's in space. And it's Cameron. I don't really care for the Hollywood blockbuster, but it brought Cameron out of a ten year hiatus, so my interest is piqued.
