"Watchmen" Director's Cut to Get Theatrical ReleasePosted: April 4th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
During ShoWest, "Watchmen" director Zack Snyder accepted an award for Director of the Year and spoke briefly about the film's box office results and the theatrical release of a director's cut.
"Thing about Watchmen is it's a lot of craziness. It's a long movie, it's rated R," said Snyder [via /Film] "Everyone is talking about 'Monsters vs. Aliens,' which is a cool movie, comes out and makes like $58 million and everyone is like, 'Oh my god, it's the hugest hit ever!' And then a R-rated movie, two and a half hours long with superheroes raping each other makes $55 million dollars and every-one's like 'WHAT?' How is that possible? I'm pretty happy with the movie."
"Watchmen" did well during its opening, but dropped 68% in its second week. After a month, the film only earned $104 million, while "Monsters vs Aliens" earned $106 million in only 10 days. And even though there is not much of an audience left for "Watchmen," Snyder is still planning to release a director's cut.
"We're super proud of the movie, the director's cut is coming soon. So in July you'll get to see more 'Watchmen,'" he said. "If you didn't have enough in two hours and forty minutes, you'll have three hours and ten minutes, and I think there is three hours and thirty minutes coming so they'll be a lot more 'Watchmen' to come, regardless of how people feel about it."
So will the three hour and ten minute cut of the film ever appear on the big screen? "I think that's still happening," said Snyder. "I think they're still going to do a limited run of it, or they're still talking about it anyway."

this is good news, because now the fuckers who are bitching about it "not being good enough" can suck a fuck and shut up and learn to like it because I think so many people forgot Zach Snyder made it longer but had to cut it down. I'll see it again in its 3 hours format because it was great to begin with.

The squid thing is retarded. The movie did not suffer ONE BIT by having an ending that actually seemed more legitimate. I seriously don't get the fanboy bullshit. The movie was DAMN close to the source material.
