A New Low for 20th Century FoxPosted: April 3rd, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
20th Century Fox is doing what they can to save money, but in the process, they are putting the burden on the theater chains, who are also struggling to make a buck.
It was previously reported that the studio has informed exhibitors that they have to co-finance the theater upgrades necessary to show 3-D movies. Now, Fox is also saying that it's up to the theater owners to pay the $1 million per-picture cost to provide 3-D glasses.
Fox agreed to play for the glasses in a deal made a long time ago, but now that theaters have already spent million in upgrades, the studio feels they can renegotiate the deal in their favor.
"I'm already paying fees to RealD for the systems. I'm paying to put in the silver screens and I'm paying to train employees to run the product," said one angry exhibitor to Entertainment Weekly. "To come in at this point and say they aren't going to pay for the glasses, yet they want all the upside of the revenue, is ridiculous."
So why is Fox doing this? They believe that theaters wouldn't miss the opportunity to play big budget films, especially when other theater owners (who are 3-D equipped) could potentially take their business. But Fox may end up getting hurt in the end, since sources are claiming that Regal Cinemas, AMC Theaters and Cinemark will all fight Fox's new demands.

So they should fight FOX, some one should stand up to those pricks, if it's anyone that could actually hurt FOX it is the theatre companies, does FOX even understadn that without them they have no way in releasing their films unless they go straight to DVD

wow...i knew fox was stupid but i didn't think they'd sink that low....i'm glad these companies are fighting fox on this cuz they're getting stupider every passing second...one ruined movie after the next...one broken deal after the next right?...not that i can possibly do anything about it...but it's nice to see something for what it is like the theaters are doing...people like julia roberts get payed 20 million for a movie i haven't even watched nor bothered watching a trailer for...how much does the average employee get?...nothing compared to that in their lifetime...why should anybody care for fox on this matter?....sure theaters wouldn't miss opportunities to play big budget films...but in a bad economy where movie companies like 20th century fox are trying to suck up every dollar they can, they'll miss it on purpose...people aren't as dumb as they used to be...and since this is making news...more and more people will know and think more lowly of fox

and it also shows just how careless they are...for example...a wolverine prequel instead of a sequel...they knew everyone wanted a 4th...so they pissed everybody off by doing a prequel instead....everyone still wants a 4th...but not so much now if they're gonna continue ruining it

if they continue acting like airheads yea that's probably why they'll fail....and if they're clever....rename themselves 21st century fox hahaha but that wouldn't last long either as it would be too similar to 21st century real estate or sumthin heh...it would still be the same them...they are the new low now and it's news...YES!! lol....only thing good thing they're for is the good movies that they have done...but this is just sad...what happened to 'orion'?....three amigos was f*cking awesome...and clifford and many other titles...i hope they make more comedy stuff like that....or maybe our generation will just have to make it ourselves

This is an affront to a once popular studio responsible for the "X-Men" films (I took part 3 as escapist fare, and it was satisfactory), "Independence Day", the "Die Hard" films (except for part 4, Mary Elizabeth Winstead sucked the life out of it), "The French Connection", and "Speed". Who's running that company?

Well now that Fox co-financed all the 3D equipment in the theater the owners an just play other companies' 3D movies that will pay for glasses and Fox loses again.

Fox sucks ass. They ruin movies and piss off a lot of movie fans. Somehow I wish they would just disappear. I hope they get hammered on this deal, BIG TIME!
