"Hackers" Director to Helm "Bond 23"?

"Hackers" Director to Helm "Bond 23"?Submit Comment
Even though Bond series producer Michael G Wilson recently revealed at the Bradford International Film Festival that "there had been no significant work done on the next entry," the rumors have nevertheless been popping up about the 23rd Bond installment.

First, there were reports that the Bond producers wanted Oscar winner Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) to direct the sequel, a rumor that Boyle himself quashed. Now MI6 points out a Wikipedia entry that lists "Inkheart" helmer Iain Softley as the director of Bond 23.

While you're shouldn't believe everything you read on Wikipedia, Softley seems in line with the type of directors the franchise has previously hired. His resume includes such films as "The Skeleton Key," "K-PAX" and "Hackers."

We're going to have to wait to see whether Softley is really in talks to direct the new film. But with such a recognizable franchise, I wish they would entice Boyle some more, since the man knows how to shoot action while telling a good story. Or at least bring Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) back.

I'm just glad Danny Boyle's not doing it. Not that it would have been bad, I just don't want to listen to him constantle insisting that its' "not a spy movie".

"While you're shouldn't believe everything" - WHAT? No proof-readers here?

Forster just made the mistake in thinking that Bourne was the best action movie of the last decade when in fact Casino Royale was. Quantum is still a good flick but Bond needs action to come from the set pieces and stunts instead of creating the action by cutting every millisecond.

What EON should be concentrating on is a damn sensible script. the last one was pathetic. Martin cambell knows how to make a Bond movie, but after watching Forester copy bourne, spiderman, and switch the camere angle every 1.5 seconds Bond needs a fresh style of shooting. Who's more perfect to direct then Alfonso Curon (Children of Men) Hollywoods ate up with this damn shake the camera as you film style of filming action claiming it gives a sense realisim. if I'm filming to guys fight why the hell would I be bouncing and swaying the camera up and down like I'm in the fight. that's not real. When I watched Children of Men I felt like I was in the movie .Why? because the kept the camera still on one angle and used tracking shots behind the actors. The script was also excellent. That why a Bond movie under Alfonso would be absolutly stunning.

Well...if its just the intense and intimate look you're after you don't necessarily need Curon to direct. Emmanuel Lubezki shot Children of Men so they could just team him up with a veteran action director with a few four star flicks in the genre. McTiernan...Frankenheimer...

agh crap...I think Frankenheimer is dead- sh*t. Let's say Jan De Bont or Wolfgang Petersen, maybe even Antoine Fuqua. These guys may not be loved by all but they know how to stage action scenes that are memorable, well shot, and kickass at the same time.

Michael Bay anyone? Both Bad Boys had great action scenes in it. The car chase in the second film was nasty.

That's is true PrevalentMind. You could just get Lubezki as long as the chosen director doesn't interfere with Lubezki's style of shooting

PrevalentMind - I agree that Casino was a great film. But best action movie of the decade? Really ?!?. I think not. Besides a few sequences that film barely has any action at all. Bourne 3 kicked it's ass easy.

What you say is true PrevalentMind.

Didn't mean that last one. Bourne is top action hero for now.
