Jackie Earle Haley is Freddy Krueger in "Nightmare on Elm Street"

Posted: April 3rd, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Jackie Earle Haley is Freddy Krueger in Nightmare on Elm StreetSubmit Comment
Back in February, LatinoReview reported that Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach from "Watchmen") was being considered to star as Freddy Krueger in the upcoming "A Nightmare on Elm Street" reboot.

During the interviews that followed, Haley first denied the rumor, but then said that he has spoken to Platinum Dunes about potentially taking the role. Now, Bloody-Disgusting has learned that Haley is now in final talks, which means that unless something unexpected happens, Haley is our new Freddy Krueger.

The site has also just learned that Kyle Gallner (The Haunting In Connecticut) is in final talks to play Quentin, the podcast host that Johnny Depp played in the original film.

Director Samuel Bayer is getting ready to begin filming at the end of the month in Chicago. The new movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 16th, 2010.

I expect the movie will be lame but that Haley will perform exceedingly well.

meh....i'm still with wes on this...gonna keep sayin that every nightmare on elm street update unless he changed his mind or sumthin...don't care if it's good or bad...it's not right

Well, now my interest is piqued. I haven't made up my mind on this one and I'm a bit pissed no one consulted Wes Craven, but at least there's some talent being thrown in the mix.

Haley knows his shit. He's great.

I don't care. And if you are one of the idiots that want to see this remake because of who Freddy is played by, then you are kind of going to watch a movie based on your strange man crush. The movie should be awesome gore and fun, that was always the appeal, nobody watched the first Nightmare movie because of the guy playing Freddy.

MrSammich...i agree totally...freddy didn't have much of an appeal until the sequels....proof of that is in 'wes craven's new nightmare' with the fans of robert englund and heather legancamp tryin to get their autographs....and that movie was awesome...i think what wes was simply trying to do was create a new horror franchise...an original slasher flick that would be just another name next to friday the 13th or halloween....but these guys are just trying to resurrect one that should only be done in wes craven's favor...not hollywood's...haley might make a convincing freddy...but in my eyes as well as a lot of others, he doesn't deserve to unless wes craven says so, and that's why even if i had money to waste, i wouldn't waste it watching this...put it this way...if it was your movie being remade without your consent, would you participate in it or watch it?...i wouldn't

Regardless or MrSammich's retard brain-fart, this is now a movie to get excited about rather than dread. Excellent casting.

The movie is likely going to be lame and unnecessary. But at least Freddy Krueger will likely be portrayed fine.

He's the PERFECT Freddy!

What's the deal with the absurd JEH love? Rorschach was a cool character an' all, but Haley didn't exactly give a stand-out performance; the gravelly Christian Bale's Batman voice was actually pretty annoying.
PrevalentMind writes:

The original wasn't funny- the sequels turned him into horror slapstick. The original and new nightmare are the only ones where he's menacing and creepy- the others he's a comedic badass. Both are fine so as long as Haley's performance is accepted I dont think they can go wrong...even cheesy Freddy is fine entertainment.

Ronsauce, the voice was intentionally annoying. Rorshach's voice is supposed to be unpleasant to listen to. had Bale not rasped his way through TDK, we most likely would have loved Ror's voice. Oh well. I just hope he doesn't whisper act his way through Freddy. That just wouldn't make sense. This is kind of a weird choice, IMHO.

He's gonna rock the role, hopefully the movie is as good as he is

"had Bale not rasped his way through TDK, we most likely would have loved Ror's voice." No. An annoying voice is an annoying voice.

Perfect! At least we know now that the movie would be a total failure. Hopefully they can give us a good flick. Also think they might actually make this a bit more gruesome with Haley starring.

hmm...yea i'm still stickin with wes on this...it's funny cuz i knew it was only a matter of time before they decided 'hey, well friday the 13th and halloween got a remake...why can't nightmare on elm street?'...cuz honestly it's NOT that necessary
bacci40 writes:

isnt right that craven isnt in on this...but again, the fans speak and the studios listen...the fans know how to cast films...and jeh is the fuckin man

the podcast host that johnny depp played in the original film? yeah, because podcasts were around in the 80s. i understand what is meant but the wording is simply fucked.

ACTUALLy the Nightmare remake was whispered well before Friday the 13th...SO keeping that in mind, the studio HAS NOT rushed this film...it's been brewing for two years and their only sure of casting Krueger so far. The fact they are tasking they're time instead of rushing into production to compete is a statement that they truly want to do this right. We'll see...but I have a good feeling about this remake.
