Michael Bay Steps Up Visual Effects in "Transformers 2"Submit Comment
Digital Domain and Industrial Light & Magic, the visual effects studios working on the upcoming "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" revealed to Variety that director Michael Bay has added levels of complexity over the first installment, making their job that much more difficult and challenging.

"Michael took the production value up many, many notches," said Industrial's Scott Farrar. "Just the backgrounds alone are huge. It's a combination of 'Apocalypse Now' and 'Ben-Hur,' in regards to fantastic backgrounds and the unbelievable sets we worked at around the world."

Farrar added that the are about 60 robot characters that play in settings around the world and will now interact much more with that world. Farrar highlights "the splashes and the hits and the fighting on dirt or moving, banging into trees," explaining, "Things splinter and break, they spit, they outgas, they sweat, they snort."

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is scheduled to hit theaters on June 24th, which is a Wednesday.

holy moly :D 60? i mean... 60? my goodness. But im glad to heat that michael is pushing ILM and DD to new edges I think Transformers it about to raise the VFX Measurement level even higher than it did 2007. Every VFX driven movie has to compete with the VFX in Transformers. WOW just WOW I admit that there are a lot of shots in the First one that i watched frame by frame to check out all the details as i do VFX for a hobby myself so im a VFX geek :D

A lot of movies release on Wednesdays. Transformers was released on a Tuesday, I just think Bay needs to step up his story along with stepping up the effects. But I don't think he knows how. Well see

Great. 60 Robots, and not a decent line of dialogue for any of them, but shamelessly I still can't wait...And, Planetastudios, your post makes me wonder if you're not on Bay's payroll.
