"The Karate Kid" Remake to be Called "Kung Fu Kid"Submit Comment
In an interview with New Zealand's 3News, Jackie Chan revealed that he is now trying to become a real actor and that he is done with the "Rush Hour" movies. "If I continue to make these films, Rush Hour 1, 2, 3... I am tired. Every day doing the same thing," he said. "I want to change. I want to be a real actor."

In addition, Chan confirmed that he has signed on for "The Karate Kid" remake as Mr. Miyagi, the role previously played by Pat Morita. The role of the main character will be played by the 10-year-old Jaden Smith, the son of Will Smith.

Chan also revealed that the remake will have a new name. "They don't want to call it 'Karate Kid' anymore," he said. "They want to call it 'Kung Fu Kid.'"

Kung Fu Kid will suck. I promise you.

Chan has been a "real" actor since Police Story. Regardless of whatever he's made since his transition to the US, he's talented.

real actor? lol yeah and miley cirus will win an oscar next year - what da f*ck? Chan is a fun actor not a real actor. he's like Arnie or stallone or Statham. Neither of them can really act come on but they are fun to watch you cant compare them to a Sean Penn, Jack Nicholson or Clint Eastwood or Heath ledger can u? NO!

Jackie Chan rocks. Don't compare to him Miley Cirrus. He deserves better than that. Having said that, this movie is gonna suck badly. Kung Fu Kid, really? Could they make it any more obvious that they are trying to ripoff Kung Fu Panda as well as the original Karate Kid?

Stallone is a real actor too. Haven't you seen Copland? He's excellent in that movie.

as soon as i saw this I instantly groaned! Kung Fu Kid? Thats the kinda movie you pick up in basket for pennies!! Bah!!

at least keep the original title.

*Sigh*......they mite as well call it Kung Fu Kid and just make it a new movie. If your going to change the name as well as everything else just make a new movie, it's the Kung Fu Kid that's it, it has nothing to do with the Karate Kid and everyone will be happy.
Black_Jack writes:

This is good. Now we can pretend that it really has nothing to do with The Karate Kid. Now its no more a "remake" than "The Day The World Ends" was of "The Day The Earth Stood Still".

There's no doubt in my mind this will do worse than Street Fighter. haha

@ ilovemovies82 - Agreed, plus Stathham has shown he can decently act but he also has shown he can pay his bills in doing chop suey flicks.

This movie is going to suck... But i do prefer the new title because it makes more sense, firstly Jackie practises kung-fu in real life, not karate. Second, he's chinese (where kung-fu is from) and not from Okinawa, Japan (birth place of Karate)..but i wonder are they still gonna call his character Mr.Miyagi...so is he playing Japanese who is kung-fu master ?

Finally Jackie can do what he does best, kick some a$$ and now he's a little older, so he's perfect for this role!!!!

JakeVermont - Stallone, Statham, and Arnold are all proven actors. Yes, they do fun movies, and sometimes end up as caricatures of themselves, but that doesn't change the fact that they've done legitimately great jobs as actors. Stallone's performances in Rocky and in First Blood are terrific. Statham is great in popcorn action movies, but has the talent to do more serious turns in films like The Bank Job. Arnold has amazing charisma and talent, which he has shown off in great roles like Terminator 2 and True Lies. Sean Penn, on the other hand, has basically trademarked the phrase "overacting."

wow.they ruined the movie before they even started filming it. plain sad.

Actuallly, this is a greatt new. Now the movie can suck on it's own.
PrevalentMind writes:

This is GREAT news! Now they can screw up all they want because the new title will make it out to be the cheap knock off it is instead of being an official remake.

Guess which movie wont even get a glipse of my tax refund. And the son of Woll Smoth will drive this movie straight to Beverly Hills Chihuahua and High School Musical 3 territory. Guaranf*cknte.

WHAT THE F WRONG WIT JACKIE CHAN. NO MORE RUSH HOUR. are you crazy? And why the f*ck!! is he blaming him being tired on Rush Hour. They only made three when they could of had five by now. Maybe his tired from the million and one other Kung Fu pictures he's stared in some of which recently went straight to dvd. You know what? f*ck JACKIE CHAN. They should continue the Rush Hour franchise without him. It will be very hard but anybody can kick ass,but only Chris can crack those jokes. And as for this Kung Fu Kid. Karate Kid is a classic but its not that old. There's no reason for a remake. And Will's son is still too small. who's ass is he going to believably kick on screen.

lol...i'm not gonna spend 10 bucks to watch a remake of every hit 80s movie...not neverending story, not karate kid, not poltergeist...not nightmare on elm street...i'm sorry but i'm not....i'll pay 10 bucks to watch the original on screen...but not a bunch of silly remakes...hmm...unless they were good?...but when do we get as many great remakes since batman?...haha next we'll see a remake for back to the future....oh wait...they're planning that aren't they...oooo they better not!
