"Serenity" Fans Lose to Stephen Colbert

"Serenity" Fans Lose to Stephen ColbertSubmit Comment
NASA held an online contest to let users name a new room at the international space station. The choices were: Earthrise, Legacy, Serenity and Venture. Sci-fi fans were excited to see "Serenity" take the early lead with 80% of the votes. But "Serenity" didn't win, because NASA allowed for write-ins and didn't count on one man's desire to have a room named after him. So who won then?

"Colbert" beat out NASA's four suggested options after Stephen Colbert urged viewers of his Comedy Central show "The Colbert Report" to write in his name. And they complied, with 230,539 votes. That clobbered "Serenity" by more than 40,000 votes. Nearly 1.2 million votes were cast by the time the contest ended Friday.

NASA reserves the right to choose an appropriate name. Agency spokesman John Yembrick said NASA will decide in April, but will give top vote-getters "the most consideration." The new room will be launched later this year.

Colbert Sucks. It should have gone to Serenity. Or at least one of the other names. Its a SPACE station. Its sci-fi in real life. It should have a sci-fi name. Not the name of some guy with a tv show that wont be remembered in ten years.

"Its sci-fi in real life. It should have a sci-fi name. Not the name of some guy with a tv show that wont be remembered in ten years." Real life implies that it's NOT fiction(the "fi" in "sci-fi"), and considering his show has been going for something like five years now, and before that, he was on the Daily Show for a number of years, I think he runs no risk of being forgotten any time soon. Also, bitter much?
