USA Today has unveiled six new photos from the upcoming Spike Jonze-directed "Where the Wild Things Are," which is Maurice Sendak's timeless tale of Max, a young boy who channels his anger into a fantasy land full of giant untamed beasts.
Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) invests his own brand of offbeat style into the nearly 50-year-old bedtime classic. "To me, the Wild Things are both cuddly and dangerous, and I always wanted to climb on top of them like Max," he told USA Today.
The film was shot in Australia outside of Melbourne, and very tall local actors were hired to don the costumes of the seven Wild Things onscreen. "We worked the hardest on the facial expressions in post-production," says producer Vincent Landay, Jonze's longtime producer. "We're not re-inventing the wheel in terms of technology. But we applied it in a way no one else really has."
The film is set to hit theaters on October 16th, while the first trailer will appear in front of "Monsters vs Aliens" this Friday (March 27th).
