"Dragonball" Dominates Asian Box OfficeSubmit Comment
20th Century Fox's upcoming big screen "Dragonball Evolution" adaptation is set to hit US theaters on April 8th, but has already been released in several countries, where it has enjoyed a healthy debut over the weekend.

The movie has already earned $10.1 million from over 2000 screens in eight Asian territories. Screen Daily reports that "Dragonball" "delivered Fox's fourth and third best opening weekends of all time in China and Malaysia, grossing $3.4 million from 855 theaters and $731,441 from 110 theaters, respectively."

"Dragonball Evolution" bowed in second place in both Japan (earning $3.3 million) and South Korea (a $1.2 million gross). The James Wong-directed sci-fi film opened in first place in Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand.

$10 mil put them at 4th?............. uh so SF:Legend of Chung Li was a success for Fox I assume.

Anyone who cares will have already downloaded it by the time it gets here.

That's not that grand to make an article about. Fox movies just haven't had great openings there period.

I don't think Dragonball has a big enough audience over here to keep this from failing in the states. Overseas, it's practically a religion. Folks went to see the side movies in droves over there. The same ones my nephew has buried in his toybox on DVD. Hell, when the Pokemon movie came out here, I don't remember it making any kind of impression or even raising an eyebrow and that had a following like nothing I've seen before. This movie should have been made years ago when DB was fresh in folks' minds. Now it'll be on DVD/BD in a week after its release.

it figures, Japan is the birthplace of Dragonball so that's where all the moneys at

If they tried, they couldve made it appeal to audiences in the states but the fact that they made it look sooo f*cking cheesy and corny ruins it for me and im sure others agree.

Totally agree with the above posting. This movie could have been made so much better, especially with a dark tone. The show is cartoony for sure but it has its dark as hell moments too. Learn from the dark knight and make these movies catered towards older audiences and you will make your money back, and leave the kiddy sh*t to Pixar and The Rock movies!

Totally, such potential here. With all the digital effects now a days, this should have been a great movie no matter what your age. I'm so pissed off about this. Not only will this fail in the theaters but most importantly, it failed all the fans. Ahh, there's still hope for DBZ.
