First Look: Matt Damon in Clint Eastwood's "The Human Factor"Posted: March 15th, 2009 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Thanks to TheBadAndUgly, we now have ten photos from the South African set of the upcoming Clint Eastwood-directed film called "The Human Factor," which will likely appear in theaters in December of this year.
In the movie, Matt Damon will play rugby star Francois Pienaar, who created, with Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman), an event that gave whites and blacks in South Africa a common cause to rally around as the country was trying to heal from the wounds of apartheid.
The Anthony Peckham-scripted drama is an adaptation of John Carlin's book "The Human Factor: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Changed the World."
Mandela, freed from 27 years in prison and elected president, decided to get behind South Africa's Springboks team when the country was selected as host country for the 1985 Rugby World Cup. The Springboks had been banned from international competition because of the country's apartheid practices.
The majority of blacks viewed the team as a symbol of exclusion, but they rooted along with white countrymen as the Springboks won in overtime against New Zealand to capture the Cup. Pienaar was the Springboks captain who developed a relationship with Mandela during the team's run.

Damon and Freeman together for the first time should be interesting, as Damon has said he has admired Freeman more than any other actor and got to meet him once for dinner as a birthday present

Looks kind of like Steve Rogers, hahaha. I am pretty psyched for this movie. I have not seen a bad Eastwood movie (it was freaky how much his Gran Torino character reminded me of my Grandpa). Plus, Damon and Freeman are in my top 5 favorite actors so anticipation is high! Oh, and don't bash me over the Cap remark!

As a South African who still vividly remembers those events I'm very interested to see how this movie turns out.

That would be the 1995 World Cup as the first World Cup was not held till 1987.

Three of my favorites. And ever since I saw Damon on YouTube talking about Palin, gotta say I like 'em even more.

Yes, Whoever it is about the 1995 World Cup. South Africa was not allowed to play internationally before then.
