Wes Craven Hurt by "Nightmare on Elm Street" RemakeSubmit Comment
Wes Craven attended the premiere of "The Last House on the Left" where he said that it "hurts" to see the upcoming remake of "A Nightmare On Elm Street."

He created the original slasher film and the infamous character Freddy Krueger, but has no involvement with the new version. When asked how he felt about the remake, he said: "That one kinda hurts, because I don't have any rights to participate in it at all."

He continued: "It was done at a time when I was dirt poor so I had to sell everything when I sold the script, so that one hurts a bit."

Asked if he would be seeing the film, he said "probably not."

good...that's how i'd feel about an original work of art that i created too...it's crazy how a lot of these great stories come from people being at a very low level in life...it makes them write either the worst or the best things...and then these 'frauds' think they can take advantage of it...the hills have eyes remake was nicely done...and they involved him in his creation which is only right...if they really had to absolutely remake nightmare on elm street franchise, the least that they could do is involve the man who created the whole thing and the man who made freddy what he is today...i want to hear robert englund's thoughts on this....seriously to do that kind of thing to wes craven is much worse than a stab in the back...just because halloween and friday the 13th got a remake doesn't mean nightmare on elm street needs one...i'm with wes on this...i won't watch it either...and if i do...it'll only make me think how much better wes's version is...i wonder what john carpenter thought of the new halloween...oh wait...nevermind...my guess is he didn't watch it

I never imagined that the only thing you can't hurt on Craven was his feelings... poor guy anyway.

Well if he doesn't have the rights then I can a see him not being involved but I am still curious how will turn out without him involved.

The Skippy Spartan is right...it shouldn't matter if the rights are his or not...fact is he f*cking created it...so the decision is ultimately up to him...f*ck those remaking frauds...don't give a sh*t if they can do a better job...that's only cuz we have better technology these days...i bet they wouldn't be able to pull off any of his 80s filming techniques...cuz they're STUPID!...nor can they create a story of their own...f*cking lame

true that he did give us some great horror in the day but get over it, he's not the only one whos work has been or is being remade - get over it. He could get onboard with the new one if he wanted to bad enough.
