John Woo's production company Lion Rock Entertainment is developing a big screen sequel to the classic action film "Hard Boiled," which stars Chow Yun-Fat.
THR revealed that Jeremy Passmore (Special) and Andre Fabrizio are writing an adaption of the video game "John Woo Presents Stranglehold," which was considered an official sequel to "Hard Boiled."
The game saw Chow Yun-Fat reprise his role as the iconic, baby-holding detective Tequila as he continued to battle criminals in Hong Kong. The fact that American writers are onboard has lead to speculation that this sequel might be in English, and set in the US.
The original "Hard Boiled" is considered one the greatest action films ever made, with the extended gunfight in a hospital entering into movie folklore.
That was definitely one of the greatest shootouts filmed ever. That clip doesn't do it justice as it's really like 15-20 minutes long and has very few cuts. Long extended scenes of them going down hallways in gun battles with some crazy choreography. Children of Men reminded me a lot of it with it's extended, one-shot, no-cut action scenes that are just incredible to watch.
Unfortunately, ever since Woo has been "Americanized" I haven't seen anything of his that's even close to this good. I'm hoping it's at least as good as the original, if not better, but if major Studios are butting in.. it won't be pretty.
