Steven Spielberg's Sweet "Tintin" Deal

This week, Steven Spielberg will wrap 32 days of performance-capture lensing on "Tintin," then hand the project to producer Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings), who will focus on the film's special effects for the next 18 months.

Spielberg and Jackson have tried to keep quiet about the details of what is expected to become a three-film franchise while hyping the one-of-a-kind aspects of "Tintin's" motion-capture technology, which is being created by Jackson's New Zealand-based effects house Weta.

Spielberg's longtime spokesman Marvin Levy told Variety, "You have to see it to understand (the technology). It really can't be described." Producer Kathleen Kennedy added: "It's extremely difficult to explain to someone unless they are standing here next to me. And usually then their reaction is, 'Oh my god.'"

Spielberg is directing the first installment in the trilogy and then Jackson is expected to helm the second, but Jackson is also doing all the effects. So while Spielberg is keeping an eye on the progress, it is Jackson who is doing most of the work. And if Jackson goes on to helm the second film, it would be interesting to see what Spielberg's involvement will be, if any.

It was assumed that the movies would be shot back-to-back, but the studio has yet to greenlight a follow-up to the $120 million film. The decision to make the second movie will be heavily dependent on the script.

At this point Jackson is sketching out ideas for the second installment.

This is sounding more and more awesome. Peter Jackson should do Halo next.

For this one they're injecting the actors with motion-capture nano-bots for true 3-D rendering.

I have never read any Tintin and will wait for the trailer before forming an opinion about the project. I second meanmonkey22's statement though, BRING ON LINCOLN!!!!

Weren't they gonna shoot the film with real actors? Or everything is about motion-capturing-from-actors and have the movie in 3D? Couldn't they find a great Tintin actor?
